Sports cars have come a long way in a short amount of time. There was a time when getting a sports car was a badge of honor. Whether you drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse or a Pontiac GTO, driving a sports car is unlike any other feeling in the world. The Ford Mustang is among one of the most popular sports cars in the world. There is a good reason for that, and it was the fun driving characteristics and the style. But for many enthusiasts, the Mustang and/or other sports cars just didn’t fit their personality or needs.
But countless other sports cars offer the same features and more. Where the Mustang gets by with a powerful V8 engine, other sports cars delivered a lot of power with less displacement. Cars like the Toyota Supra and the Mitsubishi 3000GT come to mind first. You don’t always need a powerful and large motor to translate to a fun driving experience. We looked at the Mustang and 19 other sports cars that deliver a lot of driving fun and value for the price.
20: Ford Mustang “New Edge”
Released in 1999, the Ford Mustang “New Edge” was a radically different design for the car. Ford was experimenting with this design language at the dawn of the new millennium. With that change came a new style to the Mustang lineup. The performance was improved with this generation of the Mustang. There was a limited-edition Mach 1 model as well as the Bullitt Mustang themed after the famous Steve McQueen movie (via Motor Trend).
The New Edge style Mustang proved to be one of the best-selling Mustang models of all time. Although it was a simple rendition of the already existing SN95 model, it was a vast improvement. The interior was more modern than before and the performance had been vastly improved over previous models. There was also still the coveted Cobra model, which is what most enthusiasts went for.
