DeSoto
Another defunct Chrysler brand was DeSoto, a brand that was surprisingly popular for a short period. There were over two million cars and trucks sold with DeSoto badging on them until the brand was shuttered in 1961. The DeSoto brand was more successful than many defunct automotive brands. Yet the fact that it served the same customers as Chrysler meant the brand wasn’t selling (via Ranker).

The failures of the DeSoto brand were due to mismanagement by Chrysler and segment crowding by the Plymouth brand. Nowadays drivers forget how iconic the DeSoto brand was and how well-known it was in the automotive world.
