40 Extravagant Cars Jay Leno Has To Get Rid Of

26: 1980 Briggs & Stratton Hybrid

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive a lawnmower? During the eighties, Briggs and Stratton wanted to evolve the riding lawnmower into something more. And thus the 1980 Briggs & Stratton Hybrid was born. We’re probably being a little too harsh on the car because at this point it was the pinnacle of automotive design. This hybrid was created long before the green movement was a “thing” and before you saw a Toyota Prius at every coffee house. The 1980 Briggs & Stratton Hybrid incorporated a host of technology which made the car perform better than ever.

The overall design was at the peak of the automotive industry, and this made for an excellent choice. However these days the car is just a big yellow relic of ’80s design, and there are better cars than Leno could focus his attention on. You probably won’t see the 1980 Briggs & Stratton Hybrid at your local Home Depot anytime soon.

25. 2011 Audi R8 Spyder

When the Audi R8 hit the market back in 2011, there was a good deal of fanfare that was surrounding it. And with good reason, as it was Audi’s first step back into the supercar arena. When you look at the R8 you might mistake it for an NSX with its long swooping lines and similar characteristics. But aside from a stunning exterior package, the R8 is nothing special when you compare it to other cars in Leno’s collection.

In fact, over the last 10 years, the car has changed very little. Audi is working to get a replacement on the market. Leno’s example is a bright red one with the Spyder package. If you’ve ever heard an R8 run, then you’ll know that the exhaust note is one of the more satisfying aspects of the car. But for Leno, it’s probably time to sell this off and upgrade to something better.

24. 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer

One thing about Leno is that he likes cars that are out of the ordinary. You’ll notice that much of his collection is built of novelty vehicles. The 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer is one of those cars. It’s not a car that you can drive every day, nor a practical car to drive anywhere. But it combines a rather unique design that you don’t see all too often in a car. It’s also not to be confused with the Stanley Steamer carpet cleaning company.

The Vanderbilt Cup Racer is an eye-catching piece of history to look at. But when it comes down to it, this is just one of Jay’s too many toys that seem to occupy his time and efforts. These older cup style vehicles are cool to look at but there are many more exotic-looking cars that could go into his collection. Still, the Vanderbilt Cup Racer stands out from the crowd and it’s said that he even got a ticket in it.

23. 1986 Lamborghini Countach

Leno is a massive fan of ’80s-era cars. This was the era that he made his bones in the comedy business. The cars of this era were unique in design and performance, which is why a lot of enthusiasts collect exotic cars from this era. Movies like Scarface and gave the Porsches and Lambos of the period a flashy platform. The 1986 Lamborghini Countach is a highly sought-after exotic car, and not for its performance.

It’s the extreme exterior styling that makes the car stand out. There are a few things that make Leno’s different from others on the market. The first of which is the fact that he removed the wing from it, which kind of takes away from the authentic appeal of the vehicle. On top of that, there are other Lambos from this period, such as the MV200, that might be more worth picking up.

22. Blastolene Special

Once touted as Arnold Schwatzeneggar’s favorite car, the Blastolene Special is something completely different. Given Leno’s penchant for roadsters, it’s not surprising that this one popped up in his garage. The Blastolene Special is a rather unique-looking hot rod custom built for Jay. The Blastolene is based on a tank design, which gives it an increasingly special look. When you compare it to other hot rods on the market, there is only one.

The amazing thing is that Leno drives this one around town quite often. He’s been known to rack up tickets in it. When you think about what defines a hot rod, it’s custom design and the Blastolene is certainly custom. The hot rod is like nothing else on the road and we like it like that. It’s definitely not a car for everyone.

21. 1989 Ford Shogun

Leno has a lot of cars, some of which are designed for TV and others that he bought for personal use. The Shogun is a sports car that’s a bit unorthodox. This is nothing more than a Ford Festiva on steroids. The car has the heart of a Taurus SHO, which in this small package makes for a killer combination of cool and power. Nevermind the fact that the car is about the size of a shoebox.

There were only a few of these things made, and they were special order units made by a special team in Ford that we’d later come to know as SVT. The team made several Fords including the Lightning which came a few years later in the form of a truck. But by now, the Shogun’s appeal seems to have passed. It might be one that he’d want to get rid of by now.

20. 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

The thing with Leno is that he is more than just a car collector. He’s known to work on his cars. Many of the cars in his collection are heavily modified. The 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado in Jay’s collection has been heavily modified for speed. The car was already fast, but you know a gear head when you see one. Leno will modify anything and the Tornado was no different.

Leno’s 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado has a few modifications which make the engine scary fast. In addition to that, the car has the usual touches which make it a comfortable original. Leno doesn’t like things that are overdone in terms of interior and paint. But the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado might be something that he needs to part with now. The guy has so many other deserving muscle cars that the Tornado is forgettable.

19. 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car

The volume of the collection in Leno’s garage is something that makes most auto enthusiasts cringe. And it’s something that has morphed from a collection into one of the most popular tourist destinations of Southern California. Turbine cars are one of Jay’s favorite for some reason, although we can’t figure it out because the Turbine cars were nothing short of boring in the past.

These was the wave of the future at one point in time. But for what looks like a Thunderbird with a rocketship strapped to the back of it, the 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car is nothing special. This is a piece of the collection that Leno will probably never use. There were only a few of these things made and the sheer dynamics of it make it a distant memory.

18. 2017 Ford GT

The new Ford GT was a letdown as the car just didn’t offer anything phenomenal in the way of performance. Fans who wanted a Ford supercar were hoping for something bigger in the way of displacement. Ford knew this but went ahead with the V6-inspired design anyway. Leno was the honorary first owner of the Ford GT and he took possession of the unit on his TV show.

But the GT is one that he can get rid of. This isn’t a real supercar by any stretch of the imagination. There just isn’t a benefit here for the most part and the car just isn’t offering anything too unique for buyers to notice. There is the prestige of owning a Ford GT, but Leno has other cars in his collection that’ll blow the doors off of this one for sure.

17. Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren

Leno has a couple of Mercedes models in his collection, but perhaps none are more coveted then his SLR McLaren. And that’s because this was his daily driver around L.A. for a long period. The SLR McLaren was a special edition version of the SL500 that the company sold for a very long time, especially during the new millennium. The car was incredibly fast and fun to drive, but as far as uniqueness the car had little.

That’s why we think it’s high time Leno gets rid of this thing, the car just doesn’t offer any intrinsic value to a collection like his. The SLR McLaren is a fast car for sure, but the early 2000s design of the Mercedes is a bit boring these days. Whether it’s your mom’s C-Class or an S-Class like this one, the SLR is just a forgettable model and Leno has many better models.

16. 2014 McLaren P1

Leno has a couple of cars that bear the McLaren name, one of them being the P1. But if you’ve ever seen a P1, you’ll know that this car was a bit overrated for its price. That might be why he decided against using it as a daily driver. The car has a lot going for it, from a beautiful design standpoint to other aspects. But the McLaren P1 is just another example of opulence. For Leno, it’s a car he could easily get rid of. In the world of supercars, this is one that people just don’t think about.

There are so many better options that will provide you with an amazing driving experience. In the long run, the McLaren P1 is just another supercar that Leno should get out of his collection. The car just isn’t adding any intrinsic value and there are many other options in his collection that are better.

15. 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe

There were various generations of Mercedes that have made their way into Leno’s garage, the first being the 300SL. The notable Mercedes model has been around the world and inspired countless generations of car designers. But does it belong in the Leno’s collection? Probably not because the car just doesn’t offer anything amazing. You have the Gullwing design, but that’s about the only thing going for it. The 300SL doesn’t offer anything else unique in the way of performance.

Mercedes wasn’t going for performance around this period though. Instead, the company was going for dazzling design. The 300SL is a dazzling design, but it’s also a design that has grown old. This same type of look was carried over on a dozen other cars from this same period. The 300SL Gullwing is probably something Leno could get rid of and not look back.

14. 1939 Lagonda V12

Leno seems to be a real fan of these old-style coupes, which is why his collection includes so many of them. But there comes a time when you need to move on from and his Lagonda V12 is one such example. The Lagonda V12 offers a pleasant array of performance and durability, but overall its design is just tired at best. Leno has so many of these things that it wouldn’t hurt to get rid of one.

His collection ranges from the utmost extreme to ordinary cars. The Lagonda V12 does have some benefits to it such as an interestingly powerful design, but overall the vehicle is worth forgetting. There are advantages to having one, but the overa;; depth of Leno’s collection is worth letting this thing go to the chopper.

13. 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400

Every once in a while, there have been cars that have changed the face of the exotic car world. The Miura P400 is not one of them. In fact, this car doesn’t have an advantage to it other than the name. Lamborghini was betting on it when the car was a brand new choice. Leno has quite a few unique Lambos at his disposal and the P400 is one of them. For several reasons, the car is quite a unique choice, but there are drawbacks to it as well.

For a long period, this was one of Lamborghini’s most underwhelming designs. The P400 was at a turning point for the company where the design was going to mimic that of Porsche. The problem was that Lamborghini already had an extensive portfolio and the P400 didn’t bring anything new to the table. Leno is a fan of older Lambo models but this is probably one that needs to go by the wayside.

12. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita

When you have such immense wealth as Leno does, it comes as no surprise that you’d pick certain unique cars for your collection. Leno is up on all the new supercars hitting the market. The Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita was supposed to be the world’s fastest car at the time of its release. But an awkward design and a bit of overengineering made the car a pain to live with, in addition to it not being street legal in any sense of the word. The Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita will go down as perhaps one of the most iconic failures of the supercar world.

Leno already has quite a few supercars at his disposal and the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita isn’t the best. He would be better off focusing his time and energy on something like the new mid-engined Corvette. The Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita is just a very expensive and outdated supercar that has been well past its prime for quite a few years. For these reasons, the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita should be ousted from his collection.

11. 2006 EcoJet

When you take an outside look at Leno’s car collection, one thing is clear. There are a lot of unique cars in this garage. But there is one car that is one of a kind in the sense there is not another one like it in the world. Designed as an advertising ploy with GM, the EcoJet is a unique creation between Leno and GM. But the EcoJet is not as cool as you’d suspect just by looking at it. Its inspiration was the lowly Chrysler Turbine car. Leo has been outspoken about his love for all things turbine, and the Chrysler Turbine has a special place in his collection which means that it was likely he’d try to improve it.

But rather than trying to modify his classic and rare Chrysler Turbine car, the EcoJet is an all-new creation. The EcoJet was able to break quite a few land speed records, but even with that being said, the car has no practical everyday application. Leno is a person who utilizes the cars in his collection, so the EcoJet is a bit overrated.

10. 1994 McLaren F1

This car is one that Leno has owned for quite a long time. He was the original owner of this interesting looking super coupe. For a good while, Leno said this supercar was his daily driver, which is kind of interesting considering that the McLaren F1 was the fastest car in the world for some time. But as with most good things, the time has come to move on. Leno has increased his car collection tenfold, and the McLaren F1 is not something that you’d find yourself driving in today’s car market.

With that being said, the supercar is still an exceptional piece of automotive history to look at. But when you compare it to other models on the market it just doesn’t have the same appeal. With new offerings from Ford and potentially Tesla, the McLaren F1 is an outdated piece of automotive history.

9. GMC Syclone

Another car, or in this case, a truck, that was Leno’s daily driver, the Syclone needs no introduction. The turbocharged truck was launched by GM during a ’90s rebirth of sorts where the company was looking to increase awareness in compact trucks. There was a short period where the Syclone was the fastest vehicle on the market. Leno has a lot of old ’90s cars that he’s held onto over the years and the Syclone is one of them.

But the value on these things has remained stagnant and it’s probably time for him to move onto something different. Leno has the Syclone and the Typhoon which are the same vehicle in different guises. The Syclone was a great concept when it was new, but there have since been tons of cars that have overpowered them in terms of performance.

8. Ford F-150 Lightning

There is no denying that Leno is a Ford guy as a good portion of his collection is taken up by Ford vehicles. During the ’90s the company was experimenting with performance, and the F-150 was in direct competition with GM. The 454 SS was tearing up the tracks and Ford responded with the F-150 Lightning. This supercharged truck was a barebones performance vehicle, but one that Ford needed.

Over time, there have been plenty of vehicles that were a lot more fun to drive then the F-150 Lightning. That is why Ford finally discontinued the truck and moved onto the Raptor platform. The Lightning is one of the most popular production pickup trucks to ever hit the market. But the platform has become played out when compared to other classics of the time.

7. 289 AC Cobra

Leno has a bunch of unique sports cars in his extensive collection. The AC Cobra is a well-known roadster that was designed by Carroll Shelby, and this is what made the roadster a unique addition to his collection. But when it comes down to getting the AC Cobra on the road, the 289 is one of the most fun-to-drive engines. However, the 289 AC Cobra is also one of the most impractical cars for several reasons. The two-seat roadster is very uncomfortable, and although the speed is great, the rest of the car just doesn’t add up.

The roadster didn’t come in a hard top configuration and that was part of the essence that made the AC Cobra something unique. Leno would be hard-pressed to find another roadster as performance-minded as this one. But he has such a strong collection of unique sports cars that he could let it go.

6. 427 Shelby Cobra

The Shelby name is about as synonymous with the sports car world as you can get. This is why the Shelby roadster is known for being able to seriously tear up the track. Performance-wise you just can’t beat it, and it offers a serious level of lightweight practicality and the fun of a roadster. But Leno has enough of these things in his collection, which is arguably why the 427 Shelby Cobra should go the way of the crusher.

Leno just doesn’t need this one in his collection, and there are far better choices for a roadster. The 427 Shelby Cobra has become quite played out when you look at the sheer depth of his collection. You can’t go wrong with what the Shelby Cobra has to offer, and the uniqueness of the driving experience is memorable. You could still argue it’s not one that Leno absolutely has to have.

5. 2017 Acura NSX VIN 003

Leno is one of the first official owners of the brand-new NSX. He was a fan of the original NSX, so much so that he owned quite a few of the prized Japanese supercars. But when it came time for Acura to inject some new life into the NSX, the car was reborn for several reasons. The radical design had to follow into a new generation and the car was designed to perform as naturally as the original. Yet the design was unimaginative and many had hoped that Honda would stuff some sort of superpowered engine into it.

Sure, the nostalgia of Leno having the first new NSX was great. But now it’s time for the comedian to move onto more powerful supercars. He has quite a few in his collection that provide exhilarating performance and fun. It would appear that Acura tried to follow Ford with their new GT in the same process of supercharging a V6 engine.

4. 1906 Advance Steam Traction Engine

For whatever reason, Leno is a fan of steam engine vehicles. Whether you like them or not, he’ has them. The 1906 Advance Steam Traction Engine is a real marvel of early engineering when steam engines were taking over. Long before the internal combustion engine became the go-to choice for transportation.

But when it comes time to trim that collection down, Leno is going to have to make some sacrifices. The 1906 Advance Steam Traction Engine is just not an everyday car or even one that you come across often at the auction block. There are much better choices Leno could be spending his time on than the steam engine-powered traction mobile.

3. 1941 American LaFrance Series 600 pumper V-12 Firetruck

Just because you;re a millionaire doesn’t mean that you have to stop at one vehicle, or in Leno’s case, one certain type. Leno has a bunch of interesting vehicles in his collection, some of which aren’t what you’d expect. Take the 1941 American LaFrance Series 600 pumper V-12 Firetruck for instance. A prime example of early EMS enginuity, the firetruck is in prime restored condition. Leno will often take the truck out for parade duty in his hometown of Los Angeles, California.

Still, for such a unique vehicle the 1941 American LaFrance Series, the 600 pumpers V-12 Firetruck is not a standout. There is so much depth to Leno’s car collection that the firetruck is just a small piece of the puzzle. You’d probably not want to put all your eggs into one of these as the main focal point of your collection.

2. 1916 Autocar

For a unique ride, the Autocar is probably one of the most unique. The truck-like design is something you might have seen on TV. The uniqueness of the Autocar is something that connects with Leno, as much of his collection is kind of quirky. The Autocar has a lot of aspects to it that were ahead of their time. But Leno has a lot of unique cars in his collection, and the Autocar is just another space. Leno likes the unique look of the car and what it offers to his collection.

But various vehicles are just like the Autocar, and Leno has quite a few of them. The Autocar will stand out in his collection for several reasons. But not all of them are good reasons for the current time period.

1. 2009 Aston Martin DBS

Perhaps what is one of Leno’s most prized possessions is also one of the most common. The Aston Martin DBS is a sports car that needs no introduction. So much so that the car has been featured in many different movies. But when you think about the sheer depth of his car collection, the DBS is just another fixture. The sports car is nothing short of fast, but when you compare it to more well-known models, it fails in comparison. Still, you can’t go wrong with the option V12 power and the sheer beauty of the design.

Yet with all the other supercars in his collection, the Aston Martin DBS is just a distraction. He has such other fun cars to choose from that look better and perform better as well. The Aston Martin DBS is still based on an aged design, one of which is due for a refresh soon.
