10 Most Outrageous RVs Money Can Buy

Vukasin Herbez August 27, 2017

The idea of a mobile home predates the invention of the automobile by centuries. In fact, you can trace it back to the age when oxen and horses were moving carriages. As soon as cars got enough horsepower from their engines, mobile homes were back. They evolved into RVs, the so-called recreational vehicles of today. In most cases, people associate RVs with low-income families who live in these decades-old mobile homes, or with neo-hippies who love traveling with a little twist of irony, but this is just one part of the RV universe.

Modern RVs can get extremely outrageous, be it for the price, the looks or the attitude. These RVs can sometimes be so well-equipped that they seem like they could survive the apocalypse. Others are so absurdly luxurious that they stray away from the original idea of an RV. Whatever the case, these machines possess a special niche in the automotive world. Here’s a peek into the crazy world of top-tier recreational vehicles. Keep reading to learn about the 10 most outrageous RVs out there.

1. The Winnebago Brave

The countdown must start with the Winnebago, a company synonymous with the RV industry. During the RV heyday in the ’60s and the ’70s, Winnebago was the most recognizable player in the game, but in recent years as the demand for RVs dropped, the company has been struggling to get back its mojo. Luckily for all RV enthusiasts, the iconic flying W logo is back in form of the all-new Winnebago Brave.

The newest Winnebago RV will instantly make you fall in love with its retro styling reminiscing the original RV icons the company is famous for. The interior of the Winnebago Brave is also tastefully retro, but it offers all the modern amenities with a dash of nostalgia.

Three different floor plans are available, making the Winnebago Brave an RV for virtually any family. The Brave is powered by a 362 horsepower 6.8L 3-valve Triton V10 SEFI engine mated to a Ford F54 chassis. The starting price of the new icon of American traveling homes is $97,896. While it’s a high price compared to the prices of second-hand RVs, the Winnebago Brave is still a reasonably priced RV, at least until you start customizing it. The company offers endless customization options, and that’s where the fun begins.

2. Earthroamer XV HD

As if the gargantuan and luxurious Ford F-750 King Ranch wasn’t outrageous enough, there’s also an RV based on this true road-legal monster truck. The Earthroamer XV HD has a 6.7-liter turbo diesel V8 engine that puts out 330 horsepower and 725 Nm of torque. The engine powers all four wheels. But, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise because they built the Earthroamer for travelers who enjoy conquering the most demanding terrains in the world.

Its living cabin can accommodate up to eight people with sleeping space for six. It comes with a set of different floor plans, which are all customizable to match the customer’s requirements.

The XV HD has a 119-gallon fuel tank. It also carries 250 gallons of fresh water, 125 gallons of gray water and 125 gallons of black water. The batteries have a 20,000-watt-hour life with solar panels that add 2100 watts. Judging by the numbers, this adventure mobile is a fantastic offering for anyone with plans to escape the city and immerse themselves in nature.

But, if there’s one thing that’s a problem, it’s the price. The XV-HD starts at $1,500,000 with a required deposit of $375,000. The first two vehicles are still in production. However, the first XV HD should be completed by early fall 2017. To reserve the next one, you’ll have to wait until late 2018 or early 2019, as long as you have a million and a half dollars to spend on an RV.

3. Global X Pangea

Global Expedition is a company famous for producing extreme vehicles for the most adventurous people, and one of them is the Pangea Perky Mog. It is a custom-built vehicle with a lifting cabin that can accommodate two double beds, and that is its most prominent feature. The Pangea Perky Mog uses a Mercedes-Benz Unimog cabin and a medium-duty chassis. As a 4×4, it can go anywhere and make every terrain your home.

The Global X Pangea boasts a colorful interior with bright ornaments, a fully functional kitchen and a charming living area. With the looks of a modern loft, the Pangea Perky Mog looks like the perfect interior to spend your extreme holiday in.

Other features of the Pangea include solar panels, a 140-gallon drinking water tank, a 42-gallon gray water tank and a water pre-filtration system. It also comes with ArmorVision windows with integrated blinds and mosquito screens, domestic lighting and optional hardwood flooring. The Global Expedition Pangea is a gem of RV engineering since it knows no boundaries when it comes to exploring and conquering the terrain.

You can customize its interior in so many ways, and thanks to its trademark lifting cabin, you can transform the living space into a beautiful, well-organized loft on wheels. The Pangea Perky Mog is currently listed for sale, but if you want them to build a Pangea per your specifications, you may have to wait a while.

4. Renegade IKON

If your vision of an ideal mobile home goes hand in hand with the highest standards of luxury and interior design, then you should see the Renegade IKON. This RV has become the industry leader thanks to its rugged design outside and delivering the finest quality inside. IKON RVs are so luxurious and well equipped that many homes don’t have the things that come as standard in their vehicles. Some of those features include quartz countertops, heated porcelain tile floors and the latest luxurious furniture. Also, you can expect to find frameless thermopane windows, 4K TVs, JBL sound systems, backup cameras and many more exclusive features.

The basis for this RV is either the Freightliner Cascada or Volvo VNL. To ensure maximum durability, they constructed the living space from aluminum with added rustproof undercoating. The Renegade also delivers several different floor plans. Their RVs have sliding rooms that expand the maximum available space. The IKON has a four-way hydraulic adjustment that makes sure the RV is always perfectly level.

Even when you’re outside, you can enjoy a 40″ Samsung 4K TV with a BOSE Solo 5 sound system; all standard features. Optional features include an outside fridge, a GPS, exotic wood cabinets and granite tile flooring. As expected, the prices of the Renegade IKON are astronomic, but it offers an outrageously luxurious experience. It is like being in a real mobile mansion that’s miles away from your actual static home.

5. Iveco Astra HD8 8×6 Expedition Truck

After the luxurious and somewhat tame IKON, which is built for long highway hauls and comfortable camping, here is a heavy-duty adventurer’s RV – the Iveco Astra HD8 8×6 Expedition Truck. This extreme RV has four axels and its diesel engine transmits power to three of them. They constructed this extreme RV on a highly durable, well-proven 2009 Iveco Astra HD8 chassis. It is powered by a EURO-5 Cursor 13 Diesel Engine and accommodates four people.

The interior isn’t luxurious, but it’s highly utilitarian. It has a large kitchen with a dishwasher, an induction cooker and an oven. It also has a large six-person dinner table, a shower cabin and a queen-sized 160 x 200 cm fixed double bed. The outrageousness of this RV is its extreme capabilities that can take you anywhere if you have enough money to conquer the world.

The price of this ludicrous RV isn’t publicly listed, but the combination of indestructible mechanics, custom-built amenities and an already costly chassis must be expensive. So, it probably has a six-figure price tag; however, if you had the money to buy an RV that’s capable of surviving the apocalypse, would you have any second thoughts?

6. Marathon Snow Coach

If by any chance the Renegade IKON isn’t opulent enough for your tastes, Marathon Coaches offers the most spacious mobile homes on the market. They don’t lack luxury, either. One of the prime examples is the Marathon Snow Coach, an RV built on the Prevost X3-45 chassis. This RV offers the highest interior headroom available at 89 inches, meaning you won’t ever feel cramped in its living quarters. This RV is extremely elegant from the outside, which adds to its sublime appeal.

The Marathon Snow Coach was custom built for the Nelson family, avid snow campers, so Marathon made sure they never felt cold, as well. There are three 120-volt toe kick heaters, plus five heaters upstairs, and five more in the underbelly. This ensures this coach will be warm and ready regardless of the conditions outside. The tastefully designed interior of this RV comes with a California king bed, mood lighting, marble and porcelain surfaces, and more features that will make you want to live in this extreme RV exclusively.

7. Newmar King Aire

The designers of the Newmar King Aire made this extreme RV the ultimate statement of living while traveling. The Newmar King Aire boasts a Spartan chassis, but there’s nothing Spartan about it, especially in the interior. Apart from the obvious luxury, you’ll find a non-slip wireless charging pad, an LCD driving display and two control panels. It has an 11-speaker audio system in the cockpit and outward visibility of 360 degrees, thanks to cameras all around.

The interior is highly customizable. Some options include oak, cherry or maple cabinets, heated leather seats up front, a 50 by 35-inch shower with massaging shower heads and foot sprayers. Loaded with equipment, especially in the tech department, the Newmar King Aire is also stocked with a Whirlpool dryer and washer, so that your on-road experience is as convenient as humanely possible.

They designed the interior of the Newmar King Aire to resemble a Hampton beach house rather than an RV, and the amount of effort that went into this luxury house on wheels is astounding.

8. Classic Sportsmobile 4WD

The Classic Sportsmobile 4WD is a compact, yet quite potent adventurer RV that comes from an eponymous company. After testing and abusing its prototype van-base RVs, Sportsmobile finally offered their Classic Sportsmobile 4WD for sale. You can buy it in the form of a Ford van molded with a reinforced fiberglass shell. They designed the Sportsmobile Classic 4WD to cater to the most demanding off-road enthusiasts. They achieved that by taking heavy-duty parts of the highest quality, and installing them in this extreme RV.

This gave Sportsmobile the right balance between the best off-road performance and maximum comfort while on the road. The company has over 50 years of experience in designing, creating and selling extreme camper vans, and the latest step in the evolution came out just perfect. They began low-volume production of the Classic Sportsmobile 4WD in late 2016. They packed this van-based RV with equipment that makes its off-road performance sublime.

Some of the main features of this RV include a high knuckle front end for extra tie rod clearance, Fox 2.0 Shocks, a Dana 60 rear axle, a Dynatrac Pro-Roc 60 front axle, and an Advance Adapter Atlas II all Gear Driven transfer case.

9. ShowHauler Motorhome

Another gargantuan sight on this list of RVs is the ShowHauler motorhome, a truck with a semi that’s all about luxury. With that in mind, it’s worth knowing that these special amenities include window frames finished with hand-formed hardwood and genuine Corian countertops. Some of the most prominent optional extras include hardwood cabinets, special order fabric colors and patterns, and either carpeting or polished ceramic tile floors. The cabin walkway has a 12-gallon electric or gas water heater with a 30,000 BTU gas furnace.

They built the ShowHauler Motorhome on a standard truck chassis, which means that it boasts a bigger Gross Vehicle Weight Rating than other motorhomes on the market. The ShowHauler Motorhome lets you carry a lot more than regular motorhomes do, so weight will never be a worry. Also, the ShowHauler Motorhome’s mass helps you cope with highway crosswinds and on-coming traffic winds with no worries. The underside of the truck is completely undercoated, with block foam in-between steel sidewall supports.

They bonded these supports to aluminum exterior walls on the frame, without using rivets in the manufacturing process. They also reinforced all necessary interior walls to make a safe structural cage, using adhesive bonding to create bubble-like insulation. With all this engineering involved into creating the ShowHauler Motorhome, you can trust that it is a luxurious, comfortable safety tank.

10. Zetros 2733 A 6wd

The Zetros is another all-wheel-drive beast on the list and a 6WD, for that matter. The 2733 A is based on an Actros platform. Some Unimog DNA is also involved, helping it offer amazing traction due to its proven mechanics and 6WD system. It has highly-customizable living quarters. The weight of this six-wheeler ranges from 25 to 27 tons, which is a formidable number.

The chassis come from the Actros and Axor work truck series, but the 6WD part is courtesy of Unimog. The Zetros 273A 6WD is a machine with a 7.2l inline 6-cylinder engine with approximately 32 6hp. It has approximately 1,000 feet per pound of torque at a low RPM, somewhere between 1,200 and 1,600. With those torque figures in mind, it’s clear the Zetros 2733 A 6WD can go anywhere.

When operating this RV, the drive begins with its center axle, and engages the rear, leaving the front as the last option for when the terrain is so extreme that not even 4WD can help. The interior of this RV is utilitarian to the maximum, which is expected because the 2733 A is a car for hardcore outdoor use.

The RVs on this list are for dedicated travelers because they are a major investment. However, if you love to be outdoors and take frequent road trips, one of these RVs could save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on motel, restaurant and hotel fees. They are a combination of luxury, utility and modern engineering of the highest caliber.
