Working at a restaurant drive-thru setting is fast-paced and exciting. But there are also going to be stressful moments as well. You’ll never get bored working at a drive-thru and you’re bound to see some interesting things.

Because of the rate of people are going through the drive-thru, there’s never the same challenge. Seeing weird things are a dime a dozen to these drive-thru workers who’ve decided to share their stories. Read on as we delve into the strangest things they’ve seen in a customer’s car.

20: Alpaca Riding Shotgun

Exotic pets are becoming more and more the norm as urban farmers invade our inner cities. As such, you can expect to see some interesting sights at a drive-thru near you. Reddit user MomoPeachBear details how she saw an Alpaca riding shotgun at McDonald’s. “Only worked drive-through for a year but the weirdest thing I saw was an alpaca in a minivan. They asked at the window if they could order some apple slices for the alpaca. I just gave them two packs on the house.” Needless to say, this was an interesting experience for any worker.

Alpacas are similar to llamas and they do make great pets. However, riding shotgun with one could be deemed a little unique to say the least. Yet people often find the strangest bonds with animals that we might not understand. Truly, the Alpaca riding shotgun in the drive-thru is one of these times.

19: An Inappropriate Mellow Yellow With No Ice

Repetition is one of the drawbacks to working the drive-thru window, but thousands of employees do it every day. Reddit user CaptainKuntz told of an inappropriate drive-thru patron who would target young female employees. “Had a guy consistently come through the drive-thru with his penis out and showing the young girls running the windows. He would always order the same thing, large mellow yellow no ice, always on a Sunday, and always wearing military fatigues. Then he stopped showing up for a bit, we called him private peters, as our little sign to call the cops if he showed up again.

“A month later we get an order for a large mellow yellow no ice, so I decided to take over the window because had a 16-year-old running cash and sure enough he hands me his money with his d**k in his other hand. We convinced the car in front of him to stay in the lane and we called the cops, he got suspicious and left but they caught him, and was charged.” Thanks to the quick thinking of this drive-thru worker, this pervert was taken off of the streets.

18: Sex And The City: Naked Edition

Again, you see some strange things at the drive-thru like the time that this employee saw a car full of nudists. Reddit user Porcharebore describes here “I had 4 women that came through a few times. I’m 16. They’re all like 45+. They weren’t hideous or anything. Just not very attractive. Not fit, but not overly heavy. Not made up. Just naked and completely casual. Never acted like they were even slightly concerned they were naked at all. One of the girls there said they came through about once a week. We didn’t have a nudist colony nearby that I knew of. Just these same ladies.”

Naturally, it’s probably not illegal to drive around naked, but is it acceptable? This is a weird sight for any drive-thru worker to have to put up with. Most of the time you’ll see a straggler here and there, but these ladies were on a serious mission.

17: Gym Teacher With The Munchies

High school teachers are just like everyone else, and sometimes a party is necessary. Penndogg84 describes the time when his Gym teacher came to the drive-thru “My gym teacher, drunk. He started eating the tacos at the drive-through window. He was there for over 5 minutes, just eating. I saw him the next day in school, we both acted as nothing happened.”. Hey, can you blame him? Who doesn’t want a taco after a hard night of partying?

Teachers are under more stress than ever so this was not an isolated occurrence. Can you imagine how many times in a year this happens? The drive-thru is the place where you can get a quick bite any time.

16: American Pickers Stop By For Lunch

No matter what you are out and about doing the drive-thru is always a great place to stop for a bite. Reddit user CWSK111W describes the grandfather clock that came through the drive-thru one day “Had a customer come through with a giant grandfather clock in the back seat. The thing was so huge it was sticking out the side window, which just so happened to be on the left side of the car. Which meant the dude couldn’t get close enough to the window to reach his food and had to step out, cursing the whole time.”

This person had come across a deal that was just too good to pass up. Even if you don’t own a pickup truck, you’ll find a way to fit just about anything in your car if you want it bad enough. The grandfather clock is one of the most iconic household fixtures that you can get, and with good reason.

15: Murder In The Drive-Thru

Sometimes a person who is committing a crime is so emboldened that their actions are jaw-dropping. MamaTisMe described that here “Carl’s Jr employee noticed his dead wife’s naked body was upside down in the passenger seat. Maria Davis said she was in disbelief when she saw Puckett pull up to the drive-thru window: “What most caught my attention was her. I knew she was face down with her legs up in the air. It wasn’t normal. There was like a blue cover he had in the front, and he was like trying to cover her, like her behind, but her legs were still sticking up in the air.”

Davis wrote down Puckett’s license plate number and informed a detective who walked into the fast-food restaurant. Puckett was stopped when he tried to exit the parking lot.” Perhaps this killer was just so bold that he didn’t even think twice about going to the drive-thru.

14: Stoner Van

One of the most iconic images of stoner life is a van pulling up to the drive-thru with a giant plume of smoke billowing out of the vehicle. Reddit user Partofbreakfast08 describes this “Two guys were hotboxing and decided to come to the drive-thru. They did not stop smoking even when they pulled up to the window. I swear a cloud of smoke rolled out the window when they lowered it to pay. They offered me a hit and I politely declined. EDIT: for everyone asking, this was in mid-Michigan in 2005-ish.”

Getting the munchies is never fun, and the drive-thru provides a quick meal for those who need a bite in a hurry. Naturally, this would be the first stop for most stoners who want something quick and have a craving for a meal.

13: Icicle Coke

When it gets way cold outside the first thing that you want to do is grab an icicle. But someone did this to make their coke colder. Reddit user SanchezGeorge1 describes “I was working the drive-thru at Burger King in a snowstorm. Driver orders a coke with no ice. When I hand them the coke, they empty it a bit, break off a couple of icicles hanging from the car, put in the coke, and drive off without saying a word. ETA – holy crap, what a way to wake up! Thank you!”

It’s interesting to see just how far some people will go to try something different. This gives us an illustration of just how far someone will go to try something new. There are all kinds of recipes for snow ice cream and different usages for icicles. It would appear that this patron just wanted to try something unique with his Coke.

12: Beer Mobile

When you are out and about in the country and fishing bringing along beer is the next logical step. Reddit user Beergoogle88 tells a story “I once filled a car with beer bottles while hunting. the hunting was bad and I didn’t want to go home empty-handed. it was 80 dozen. got enough money for the bottles to paying for my gas for that trip and a new box of shells. if id has gone to a drive-thru id be on this as someone’s wildest. this was 40 years ago and the road had been in use by littering hunters for decades. also, the attitude toward littering was not the same as it is now. you`d be hard-pressed to find any litter there now.”

This person learned about littering and got a valuable lesson in the long run. Hunters have long staked a claim to certain parts of the country, but we should all do our part to keep the weirdness clean from any kind of trash.

11: Happy Mary

Working in a drive-thru introduces you to a lot of “regulars” many of whom come through as part of their daily routine. Reddit user Th1tGuyuKn0w describes one such person “There was this woman that would come through and get a hot chocolate every day. Her name was Mary. Mary was an older gal in her 70’s, drove an early 90’s Lincoln, usually had some old tunes playing, and weighed 60lbs if that. She was always so happy and so nice. I always gave her drinks for free because it was always such a treat to see her and she was just so nice. One other feature I remember is she always rocked suspenders and a random colored fedora every day. I think she reminded me of Ms. Frizzle after she retires.

“One day, she comes through and orders her usual. I said, “Mary, why are you always in such a good mood? What’s your secret?” She smiles and waves me closer. I lean out of the drive-thru window and she says, “Really, really good drugs.” She winks at me, turns her radio up, and cruises out of the parking lot. Mary is my hero.”

10: The Stranded Family

It’s never fun to have an unreliable vehicle, yet thousands of people deal with this every day. Hechordisinchoy describes how the drive-thru was a haven “One time I was with my mom when she went through a drive-thru. The car stalled at the window and wouldn’t start. I looked at her and said, “so… wait for the food and then push?” She said yes. They came to the window with our order, we got everything situated, then I hopped out and started pushing the car. It was a big boat of an Oldsmobile so I had to push it in a way that made it look like I was sitting on the back bumper. The looks on the faces of the people in the window as I passed by were pretty damn funny. We ended up going inside the restaurant to wait for someone to pick us up.

“Someone who was working the drive-thru told us we could wait there as long as we needed to and they’d be happy to get us cups for the soda fountain. They checked on us more than once and we were only there for maybe half an hour. I grew up in a family that often didn’t have a vehicle. And when we did have one, it usually left us stranded regularly. This was just a frustrating inconvenience and the folks working in the restaurant were so nice and felt so bad for us. We were just happy to have a ride on the way and a building to wait in.”

9: A Man And His Goat

Farm animals going for a ride is not a strange occurrence, especially if you reside in the Midwest. Reddit user CChordtraplord describes “I was on the other end of a similar situation, I was the guy with a goat in the car. I was in High school, saw an ad in the newspaper for a young goat, free to a good home. So I told my mom I was going to get a pet goat and she shrugged it off with a “yeah, okay “. I took that as permission enough so I made the call and to my delight, the goat still needed a home but there was a catch, it’s 2 goats, mother, and daughter and she doesn’t want to split them up.

“Two goats couldn’t possibly be any more difficult than one, so fuck it, I’ll take them both! I don’t have my license yet so my buddy takes me out to the country to claim my new best friends. Probably partially the munchies and partially thinking it would be funny, we decide to go thru McDonald’s. Placed our order and pull up to the first window and the lady looks inquisitively at us and says “you know you got goats back there”

8: DUI At McDonald’s

It’s not uncommon for drivers to grab some grub after a good night, but this driver took things a bit too far with the police right behind him. Reddit user OozeNahz says “Had a drunk guy come through the drive-thru. A cop car was in line right behind him. Told the cops about the drunk guy (he was blitzed and was going to kill someone).

“Cops said they knew as they were planning on pulling him over before he turned in and went to the drive-thru. They decided they were hungry and decided to get food too before pulling him over. They stayed at the back window and had us give them their food first so they could follow him out. Pulled him over in the parking lot. Was kind of entertaining.”

7: Sweaty Summer

Nothing is worse than driving around in the summertime without A/C, but many have to deal with this unfortunate reality. Reddit user glucosa86 details “There was a very very large woman (no judgment) who would come through covered in sweat, I assume because it was summer and she didn’t have a/c in her car. And she stored her money in her bra. So when she went to pay you’d have to watch her pull soaking wet cash out from between her boobs and accept it from her without flinching. It also made me laugh when people would come through in $500 cars with $2000 sound systems”

The user also noted the obscene sound systems that make their way through the drive-thru as well. A person can spend all the money in the world on a great sound system, only to look like an idiot if the rest of the car is questionable.

6: Wanna See My Stump?

As we’ve previously covered it can be fun to have your regulars come through the drive-thru window. Reddit user youwillruinyou details “On Christmas eve this guy comes through and I’m taking his money when he asks if I want to see his stump. I wasn’t thinking and said sure. The guy opens his car door and reveals that his left leg was amputated from the knee down. Again, without thinking I asked him if he was alright. He said he was, and while closing his door he mentioned that he needed to be careful when getting out because he has fallen on his face before.”

The drive-thru worker here totally thought that the person was referring to something else. With the sheer volume of people that come through a drive-thru daily, you are sure to see some strange occurrences. But, some people just enjoy the company of seeing another familiar face every day.

5: The Troubling First Day

First-day jitters are rough on anyone, let alone someone starting at the drive-thru window. Reddit user rah-kooc details having to train a newbie on an awkward day “Used to work at McDonald’s back in the day. I was training a new girl and told her to hand the man at the window his drink. The window opens, and I notice the adult man driving is wearing a bib…weird, but to each their own. As the new girl reaches out her hand to pass the man his drink, he just starts vomiting on himself, violently so…there was splatter.

“The new girl stood there in shock, so I grabbed her and pulled her back. The window automatically closed and the man eventually drove away. Another weird instance is when I was handing a man a small chocolate shake, I kid you not a small monkey wearing a diaper hopped up on the man’s seat and reached out and took the shake from me. The worst part is, none of my coworkers believed me because I was the only one who saw the monkey.”

4: R-Rated Lunch

We’re all guilty of watching strange things on our phones while we wait in line, but Reddit user yellowflower_ had a specially strange one. “My friend works as a cashier at a Mcdonald’s. While waiting for his food, this one client was watching something on his phone and my friend absentmindedly stared at the phone without actually paying attention. The dude turns and makes eye contact with her and gets super embarrassed and my friend realizes he was watching porn the whole time. She awkwardly handed him his food after.”

To each their own, but needless to say this, was a strange encounter. It’s not something that you would think about watching in line at the hamburger joint. But, then again you never know the strange things that people have on their minds.

3: Interesting Taco Bell Fan

Fast food has been an integral part of most of our lives for a long time, and Taco Bell is an iconic brand with a lot of history. Reddit user ForksnFrenchfries had a strange experience while working at a Taco Bell drive-thru “Their ass tattoo. I was working the late-night shift at a taco bell drive-thru when I was 16. This dude came in with a car full of his buddies, all high. While waiting for his food he starts chatting me up about how much he LOVES taco bell. “No like, you don’t understand, it’s my favorite thing ever.

“‘I love you guys! I even have a tattoo!’ He proceeded to unbuckle and shift in his seat so that he could stick his ass out his open window. And just dropped trow. Right there on his right cheek, in full color, was the taco bell symbol and catchphrase: “think outside the bun”. I was too stunned to say anything. Never forgot it.”

2: A Van Full of Nuns

The drive-thru is such a bustling font of activity that there is something new to see every day. The84thWolf details his time at the tender age of 17 working the drive-thru “I was 17 in high school, was a shift supervisor and it was a Sunday with 3 people called out so we were slammed. I was cleaning trays, washing dishes, and taking orders in the back at the same time nonstop for three hours. My manager comes back and says he needs me to push a van that had broken down AT the window. “What MF takes such shitty care of their van!?

“I start walking to the front door and look out the drive-through window. There is a young lady in full habit attire with 5 other very elderly women, also in full habit attire. I had NEVER seen a nun in person before or since. They look at me and smile. “Sorry about this!” (Without missing a beat) ‘No problem ladies, we’ll take care of it.’ So I and one other guy push it out of the way and helped the tow truck guy when he came. The nuns thanked us, blessed us, and ride off. I look at my coworker. “Did you swear when you heard their car broke down?” “Yup.” “Me too. We’re going to hell.” “YUP.”

1: The Baby Goat

We’ve heard tales of people bringing farm animals on a ride, so naturally, this story fits the bill. “A baby goat. Curled up on the passenger’s side in the front seat. The woman’s friend was giving away one and she knew if she asked her husband to take his truck to pick it up he’d have refused. She was confident he’d give in once he saw the little guy, who was outrageously cute. Just not if he had to go and get it and think it over since according to her “He’s tired of me bringing animals home.”

Obviously what we have here is a wife that might have brought one too many stray animals home. Nevertheless, it doesn’t hurt when you have a baby goat around. Still, this isn’t exactly a dog or a cat, and can you imagine the smell in the car? What a goat of a story.
