Two cats were killed in a fire at a Los Angeles pet shop, but a dozen other animals were saved, according to officials.

According to Los Angeles Incident Department spokesman Brian Humphrey, the fire broke out Wednesday evening in East Hollywood at an unidentified sort of pet shop.

Firefighters searched the facility while battling the blaze, which had filled it with smoke and forced the removal of 14 animals.

After being provided oxygen, nine dogs and three cats survived and were handed over to the city’s Department of Animal Services.

Two cats were unable to be saved and perished at the scene, according to Humphrey.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
