20 Things Drivers Will Want To Know About The Tesla Cybertruck

Cameron Eittreim November 25, 2019

Elon Musk has done it again. Through his vision, Tesla has released a pickup truck that looks like something out of Mad Max. If you fondly remember being a kid in the 80s and 90s, you’ll see that the Cybertruck is everything that we dreamed would be on the road by this time. Is the world ready for such a creature? Probably not. The Cybertruck is something truly different, and there will be backlash from the traditional truck buyer.

First, the truck is a lot more futuristic-looking than the Rivian R1T which is making its way to the market later next year as well. With both futuristic trucks running off electric power, the future’s looking bright. We have to say that the Cybertruck looks more like a Delorean than anything. The Cybertruck is here to stay, even with the misguided glass mishap that happened during the launch. The Cybertruck is a vehicle that is going to stand out on the roads. You’ve never seen anything like it except in movies. Read on below as we examine some of the features to look out for on the Tesla Cybertruck via Car And Driver.

20: A More Extreme Style Then The Rivian R1T

Tesla executives may have been threatened by the Rivian R1T. There’s no denying that the Cybertruck is a departure from the common design theme of a pickup truck, to say the least. How do we wrap our minds around what an astonishingly futuristic vehicle? There is not going to be another vehicle like the Cybertruck on the road for a long time. But you can bet that this vehicle is going to spark a design revolution in the automotive industry. Consumers are hungry for something different, and it’s almost 2020. Its due time that automotive manufacturers start changing the same stale designs still here from the last decades.

The Rivian R1T keeps a more conservative design theme. The company is hoping to attract pickup truck loyalists. But Tesla is a complete departure from anything that you might expect. The Cybertruck is brash and metallic-looking. You’d almost mistake it for something out of a science fiction movie. The steel alloy outer body is part of the future of automobiles. The Cybertruck is supposed to be resistant to most damage and the demonstrator was hitting it with a sled hammer. Whatever becomes of the Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T will greatly depend on consumer tastes.

19: Seating For Six Is Standard

Sadly, most modern pickup truck manufacturers have done away with 6×6 seating. This is generally done in favor of the center console, which you’ll find on most trucks. While it is useful to have a center console, so is seating an entire family. The cabin of the Cybertruck is extremely roomy and it just goes to show how much effort Tesla put into the product. High-quality materials are used throughout the cabin. Surprisingly enough, even the center seats on both benches are nice and roomy. When they say the Cybertruck can fit six people, it can fit six people comfortably. The outside might be a bit oddball looking, but on the inside, you have a wonderful interior.

via: Inceptive Mind

Although the truck is shown with six-passenger seating, we have to wonder if there will be a single cab model. The truck in going to get a lot of usage from cities and places where pollution is on its way out. The Rivian R1T is not going to boast six-passenger seating, which puts the Cybertruck in a league of its own. When you think about a unique aspect of Cybertruck the fact that you’ll get six-passenger seating is a game-changer. We have to wonder what kinds of other options will be in store.

18: The Base Price

Take one look at the Cybertruck and you’re bound to think that something like this is going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. You’d be wrong. The Cybertruck has a pretty affordable starting price tag of $39,900. This is well within the price range of other pickups on the market, and for the price advantage, you get the world’s first all-electric pickup truck. There are certain features of the Cybertruck that make it worth getting. For one, the way that it looks is sure to garner attention wherever you go. Not to mention that the truck has a completely hidden tunnel cover that can hold the weight of an entire person standing on it.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

Surprisingly enough, when you take a good look at the truck, it has a real Baha racer look to it. Elon Musk was going for a futuristic look so that he could set his truck apart. He has set it apart from the competition. There is no other truck on the market that looks like this one and for an affordable price, you’ll get a pretty cool rig. Spring for the more expensive models and you’ll look at spending around $69,000, still not a bad price to pay for a piece of future technology. As electric cars get more and more advanced, you can expect to see things like the Cybertruck more often.

17: Stainless Steel Shell

Perhaps one of the features that Musk was most proud of was the exterior shell of the Cybertruck. It’s made out of aircraft-grade stainless steel, the same stuff that’s used on the SpaceX rocket ship. This material protects against damage, rust, and corrosion. This means that the shelf life of the Cybertrucks body will be much longer than other pickup trucks on the market. We have to assume that this futuristic push was driven by consumer complaints about rusting.

via: Car & Driver
via: Car & Driver

One of the first things that will usually rust on a pickup truck is the bed and tailgate. The bed on this truck is all in one, similar to the Honda Ridgeline. Because the body is uniform in construction it helps with the ride quality and the longevity of the truck. But it also limits the truck on the amount of bed space that it has, which might be why the Cybertruck isn’t targeted to a wider audience. Even with the stainless steel body, traditional truck buyers who use these things for work probably aren’t going to spring for the Tesla just yet. This truck will have many years of proving itself ahead.

16: It Features Ultra-Strong Glass

The glass on the Cybertruck is designed to take an impact without shattering. A demonstration was done during the unveiling where a steel ball was dropped from the ceiling. The reinforced glass didn’t break. If you work in your truck or you do anything where glass breaking could be a hazard, this is a nice feature to have. The truck will also hold up a whole lot better during a car accident. The reinforced glass is just one of the many ways that Musk is attempting to paint the Cybertruck as the wave of the future. Electric cars are often tagged with the stigma of being less formidable than their gasoline counterparts.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

From what we can see, the overall design of the Cybertruck allows it to hold its own. The elements of design such as the shatterproof glass keep this truck in tip-top shape. Damage is something that happens to all types of vehicles. But if these new technological enhancements make any difference, the Cybertruck might become a runaway hit. The unique design offers something to be desired and you still get a great truck. The glass is also resistant to small range gunshots as well, which makes for a unique element of safety. And in today’s world, you cannot be too safe.

15: The Cybertruck Will Come In Three Configurations

The Cybertruck is going to come in three configurations, which drivers will find very useful. The first of which is the base configuration which boasts a single drive motor. But if you want a more powerful truck with a longer range, you’ll go for the fully loaded model. The top of the line has three separate motors, which also power an all-wheel-drive design. To accomplish this Tesla has implemented a couple of new features on the truck. The all-wheel-drive capability of the truck is amazing considering its electric. The high ground clearance is enough to pilot the Cybertruck wherever it needs to go.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

No matter which configuration you decide to go with, the truck comes with a 6.5-foot bed. The truck bed is well laid out and each model comes with a bed liner. Because the truck has a damage-resistant body, we can only imagine how well it will do with daily wear and tear. Usually a truck bed takes the brunt of most of the damage but in this case, you get a truck that can handle this. Buyers will also appreciate that each level of the Cybertruck still comes with the six-passenger seating arrangement. This is more than enough interior space for a growing family or a group of friends.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

14: It’ll Go Off-Road

Surprisingly enough, the Cybertruck is guaranteed to go off-road. Musk showcased a load-leveling suspension which will give the truck an intense amount of ground clearance. The off-road capabilities of the Cybertruck are something that Musk has put a significant amount of effort into ensuring that the Cybertruck can hang with the big boys. Let’s face it, the traditional truck shopper is going to want something that will blaze a trail. Will the Cybertruck be able to hang with the likes of a Raptor? Maybe not, but the truck will still handle considerably better than most anticipated that it will. With 16-feet of ground clearance, the Cybertruck is on par with other pickup trucks in the marketplace.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

The fact that the Cybertruck can seat six full-sized adults comfortably also means that going out for a day of off-roading can be quite comfortable. The overall design of the Cybertruck is geared for the outdoor lifestyle. The lifted front and rear bumpers allow the truck to enter and exit trails a lot easier than you’d expect. The rash guards on the bottom of the front and the back of the vehicle also make blazing the open trail a pretty easy process. The Cybertruck has a lot to offer anyone who is into off-roading, and the three-engine AWD design is going to give the truck some serious performance in the mud.

13: It’s Built For Camping

Just taking a look at the Cybertruck, you’ll think that it’s some sort of off-road attack vehicle. But the overall design of the rear bed is designed to also house a tent. The built-in tent was showcased at the reveal of the new truck and it featured a wonderful amount of space. Most truck buyers, in general, have thought about putting a mattress in their truck bed during camping, so it’s no wonder that Musk went ahead and ran with this. It’s a cool feature to say the least. There are also fold-out tables which allow you to prepare food at the campsite with ease. You can tell that the entire truck was designed to boast some pretty gnarly features.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

The main demographic who will be buying a truck that has a solid cab and truck bed will be those who are going outdoors. With that being said the Cybertruck appears to be ready for the campsite or the open trail. We do wonder if there will be accessories for the vehicle such as a bike rack. Generally speaking, most pickup truck owners who lead an active lifestyle will traditionally have accessories attached to their vehicle. A bike rack is one of these accessories that you’ll use. The design of the Cybertruck is very flat on top, so we can assume that the accessory will attach to the truck bed at some point.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

12: It’s Bulletproof

Musk pulled out all the stops to ensure that the Cybertruck was a hit. And the first way that he did this was by introducing a bulletproof truck. How do you create a bulletproof truck? Well, the Cybertruck is designed out of cold-pressed steel, so combined with the bulletproof glass windows, the truck can withstand the shots of a 9MM gun. While this hasn’t been confirmed by a reliable source other than Tesla, it’s still a pretty cool feature for a civilian vehicle. You don’t find any other vehicle that comes out of the gate being bulletproof.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

Another benefit of the bulletproof design is in larger urban centers, where the fear of gun violence has been escalating. The Tesla Cybertruck might present the future of consumer vehicle protection. There is an entire market of buyers who have been looking for a truck that presenting a bulletproof design like the Cybertruck. We’d have to wonder how well this is going to be used as a selling point for the monstrous truck. The off-the-wall design coupled with real-life bulletproof attributes make this truck a one-of-a-kind deal. Will the bulletproofing help to bolster sales? Probably.

11: This Is A Seriously Heavy Pickup Truck

Initial thoughts of an electric pickup truck are that it has to be lightweight. But from the perspective of things, the Tesla Cybertruck is seriously heavy. Take into account the massive battery pack that it takes to power this thing. Then go ahead and throw cold-pressed steel and thick glass windows on top of it. You have a heavy ride, to say the least. This defeats the Tesla design philosophy of presenting a lightweight electric vehicle that gets extraordinary range. When you have a vehicle that is this heavy, it’s bound to take some power to get it moving, and that is the case with the Cybertruck.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

Still, there are some benefits to having such a heavy truck. First, the Cybertruck is going to have a much better towing capability then you’d think. Having this much curb weight helps the vehicle to tow about 14,000 LBS with ease. This puts the Cybertruck in the same range as other domestic offerings and even pickups like the Titan XD. With that being said, the fact that the Cybertruck is going to be able to handle all of this goes to show that Tesla is serious about competing in the pickup truck realm. Even if it is with a truck that looks like it came out of Mad Max.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

10: It Seats Six People

We mentioned that Tesla has managed to create a massive interior inside of the Cybertruck. With this much interior space, it’s no wonder that the truck can seat six people with ease. It’s not uncommon for a full-size truck to seat six people. But what is uncommon is for the middle seats to be full-sized. This is going to attract buyers from all different segments because the Cybertruck can realistically seat six full-sized adults with ease. The same thing goes for the rest of the interior where there is plenty of headroom and legroom. The Cybertruck manages to create a comfortable interior with little effort.

via: Motor 1
via: Motor 1

It also helps that the roof is curved. The curved design makes the Cybertruck feel very tall inside and it also increases the driving position. Most drivers will appreciate feeling like they are so high up on the road. The elongated windshield also creates a much larger driving position and allows the driver to see more of the road. This is important for vehicle safety and it creates a rather unique position for the Cybertruck in a market where trucks don’t usually emphasize the size of the windshield or the middle passenger. Its features like these that are going to give the Cybertruck a unique footing in the market.

via: Tesla

9: Its Design Is Repulsive

Ok, so the Cybertruck is a repulsive design, to say the least. It was universally panned by an automotive press that has never seen anything like it. Oh wait, we have seen something like it in the movie Mad Max. But production-wise, nothing has come close except for the extreme-looking Pontiac Aztek. Designwise, Elon Musk is an innovator. The Cybertruck looks like nothing that we have ever seen. The notable design elements are so futuristic that the truck stands out from the crowd in a way that we haven’t seen before. But the general public might not understand or want to understand why the Cybertruck looks like this.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

The pickup truck market is one that is flooded with models. Many of these models such as the Titan enjoy a very limited appeal. With this stiff competition, the Tesla truck had to stand out from the crowd. The Rivian electric truck has a more universally appealing design. Which is why Musk worked so hard to create something different. The Tesla Cybertruck has a out of the world look. And once you get used to it, you’ll realize that the future of automotive design is going to be in the hands of Tesla. The Cybertruck is everything that cars will be one day, and right in front of us.

8: Standard Features Are Abundant For The Price

The Tesla Cybertruck is starting at a lot less than we had anticipated. The automotive community, in particular, was relatively surprised to see the starting price. Musk worked to create a vehicle that was good-looking in the eyes of the consumer. The standard features include six-passenger seating, and when we say six-passenger seating we mean a full six-passenger seating. The Cybertruck also has a universally appealing LCD which is among the largest in the class. Other trucks like the RAM have adapted this same feature. Tesla, in general, is a technology-focused company, so it’s only natural that the Cybertruck would get those features.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

Aside from that, the Cybertruck has a built-in tent for camping that goes over the truck bed, in addition to pulling out tables which can be used for preparing food at the campsite. The truck is very reminiscent of the vision that Pontiac had for the Aztek. With this much technology going into the design, it’s only natural that the Cybertruck is going to offer a good value to the outdoor community. If you want a recreational vehicle that is also good for the environment, the Tesla Cybertruck could very well be this offering. The standard features make the Cybertruck a standout offering in a flooded sea of gasoline-powered pickups.

7: Look At Those Wheels

Is it an army tank or an actual production truck? The Cybertruck comes with a seriously awesome pair of wheels. Boasting all-black alloys, the Cybertruck offers an aggressive off-road feeling straight from the factory. When you think about what the Cybertruck has to offer in terms of design, the off-road appeal is among the top features. While we don’t understand what lug pattern the wheels have yet, the Cybertruck might have the option for aftermarket wheels as well. There have not been too many aftermarket Teslas to hit the road so we aren’t too sure as to how difficult it is to customize these things.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

But with the Cybertruck boasting some serious off-road awareness, the wheels are a standout feature. We like everything that the Cybertruck has to offer at this point. The wheels look very aggressive but they still fit the overall demeanor of the truck. The Cybertruck looks like nothing that you’ve seen on the road, and with good reason. The design elements of the wheels along make the truck look menacing but futuristic. Aside from the look of the rims you also have these big meaty tires that engulf the entire look of the truck. You’d think that the Cybertruck was some sort of army tank or battle vehicle.

6: The Final Product Will Differ Somewhat

Let’s be honest here. Most consumers are not going to drive around a stainless steel exoskeleton on wheels. The production version of the Tesla truck is going to feature some sort of body paint options. The production Teslas that are on the market now have a very nice selection of paints to choose from. This means that the Cybertruck will also feature this same palette. The final product is going to be an American-built truck, which will no-doubt give GM and Ford a run for their money. With all of the technology that’s going into the Cybertruck, we have to wonder if the final product will have the same aesthetic.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

No doubt the interior is going to feature a lot more than was pictured. Tesla drivers are traditionally on the higher end of things and as such, there are certain expectations. The final design will probably have options such as heated seats and possibly a sunroof, to say the least. Drivers will no doubt also want options like cruise control and even the ability to store groceries somewhere in the bed. The design of the truck looks somewhat impractical for daily applications due to the tall truck bed. But the overall design could use some last-minute tweaking before we see it hit the market.

via: Motor Trend

5: It Will Be Fun To Drive & That’s The Point

Unlike its gas-powered brethren on the market, the Cybertruck is going to be fast. Electric engines have come far enough that the truck is going to have an impressive 0-60 time. With this kind of off-the-line performance, you’ll have a truck that gives both the Raptor and the Trailboss a run for their money. The overall performance of the Cybertruck will leave a lot of owners very happy. Tesla already offers an appealing performance when compared to other cars on the market. The original Tesla Roadster was quite fast when it hit the market and the Cybertruck will be too.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

While the Cybertruck won’t have a dedicated performance version, it will be quick off the line. The top-end models will be a lot faster than the starting package. But as with most Tesla products, you’ll be able to improve the vehicle with various upgrades. The out of the box performance of the Cybertruck is enough to give the vehicle an appeal to a broader market. We like how the Cyber Truck offers a good base engine choice and standard features. The Tesla Cybertruck stands out in a lot of ways because of just how fun it is to drive. With the high ground clearance and the air ride suspension, the truck is very fun indeed.

via: Motor 1
via: Motor 1

4: Some Of The Brightest Lights On The Road

The Tesla Cybertruck features some of the brightest LED lights on the road. There is a lightbar for the headlights and then another lightbar at the top of the windows. The truck stands out from the crowd in a lot of ways and this is another thing that Tesla was aiming for. With other pickup trucks, you have to specially purchase an aftermarket light bar or accessory. The overall look of the Cybertruck leaves a lot to wonder about how the truck will do. But with features like the bright lights, the truck will undoubtedly be ready to go off-roading with ease. The Cybertruck was a purpose-built vehicle.

It is intended to appeal to a broad range of off-road enthusiasts who would otherwise drive a more expensive truck. Generally speaking, off-road enthusiasts will pore money into their rig to design it for off-road use. The Cybertruck comes with a lot of nifty features that will make going off-roading a fun experience. The built-in light bar and the bright LED lighting around the vehicle will certainly make it stand out from the crowd. The Tesla Cybertruck is nothing ordinary when you look at it from the outside. We have to think that the final product will still feature some of these unique options.

via: Tesla
via: Tesla

3: Top Speed Of 133 MPH

The Tesla Cybertruck is big. And when we say big, it’s pretty big. With that much curb weight to pull around using an electric motor, you’d think it be underpowered. But the Cybertruck is far from being underpowered. It offers an impressive array of features that make it stand out from the crowd in a vast array of different pickup trucks. Gasoline variants are often governed by the EPA on how fast they will go on public roads. The Cybertruck has a boasted top speed of 133MPH and we have to wonder how close it will get. The electric engine doesn’t require any of the resistance that the gas engine has.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

That means the Cybertruck is going to have an impressive off the line capability when compared to other pickup trucks on the market. Aside from that, you also get the benefits of the Tesla ingenuity, which makes the transmission shift as smooth as butter. The Tesla Cybertruck is something that you might not have expected. The top speed that puts Cybertruck is the serious performance running with other fast vehicles that are on the market. We can only imagine if there will be a performance model of the Cybertruck But at this point, this is the only offering.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

2: Whopping Payload Capacity

The Tesla Cybertruck is just that, a truck. This means that towing and payload is a must if you are going to market a truck to the general public. The Honda Ridgeline failed the first time around in part because it was lacking in the payload compartment. Musk didn’t want to make this same mistake with the Cybertruck and as such the vehicle was designed with towing in mind. The total rated capacity so far is 7,500 and 10,000 pounds., both of which are respectable numbers. You’ll no doubt be able to take the boat to the lake for the summer or tow a trailer behind you for vacation.

via: Shemee 150
via: Shemee 150

This is what a good portion of Tesla Cybertruck buyers will be looking for. A truck that they can take out on the weekend and still commute daily. The Cybertruck should present a viable option for people who want a little bit of everything and still want to save the environment. The notable additions of the multiple drivetrains mean that the truck can handle business. The multiple instances of towing capability that the Cybertruck offers means that there will be a wider array for buyers to choose from. The tow hitch design will be able to add a bit of versatility to the vehicle for the commercial consumers who might be interested in this truck.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

1: Electrified Charging Capabilities

The main complaint about consumers when it comes to an electric car is the range and having to plug it in. But the Cybertruck has alleviated some of these concerns. The Cybertruck is touted as being able to charge itself. This is big news considering that the cars generally have to be charged at one of Tesla’s superchargers or in a garage. The Cybertruck has multiple onboard outlets but there is no word yet as to just how big the battery is. There is no doubt that this will be pricey to replace down the road. The range of the low-end model is 250 miles. Not bad considering that most of us only drive a few miles to work and back.

Via: Motor Trend
Via: Motor Trend

At any given moment, the Tesla Cybertruck can be driven just about anywhere, even off-road. Which is why the public is giving such a warm reaction to the one-of-a-kind electric pickup truck. Sure, the Rivian R1T got the initial spotlight, but now Tesla is taking its place. The charging capabilities and the onboard features make the Cybertruck more adequate for the common pickup truck consumer. Tesla has also stated that the more expensive models will have a 300-mile plus range. So if you are planning on taking the Cybertruck across the country, it won’t be very hard to do.
