Top Tesla Cybertruck Features Drivers Might Have Missed

Cameron Eittreim December 2, 2019

The Tesla Cybertruck has revolutionized an industry that was once stagnant with the designs of Detroit’s big three automakers. No longer is the pickup truck going to be an old-fashioned box that guzzles gas. Elon Musk has introduced the world to a revolutionary electric pickup truck that looks like it came right out of an eighties science fiction movie. The Cybertruck is pretty much everything that we dreamed up as kids. We thought that the future would look like this at some point in time but in reality, cars haven’t changed all that radically from a few decades ago. The Cybertruck is going to change the game. If you have ever watched the movie Mad Max or anything from that era the Cybertruck will be right at home.

The funny thing is that the Cybertruck is actually quite a comfortable rig. It surprised the automotive media by offering most of the features that actual pickup truck buyers are looking for. From a complete truck bed camping package to towing capabilities that we can actually live with. Yes indeed, the Cybertruck seems to be a well-rounded addition to the pickup truck market. You can’t go wrong with all of the features that Tesla has baked into this rig. But there are features that you might have missed in all the excitement of the unveiling. We are going to be delving into some of the unique features that the Cybertruck is going to be offering courtesy of Motor Trend.

20. A Full-Size Pickup With Six-Passenger Seating

Pickup trucks always used to seat six people if it was in an extended cab configuration. But now, automakers are focusing more attention on a nice center console and doing away with the bench seat, Tesla has gone the opposite direction of Detroit automakers and reintroduced a sort of bench seat. From an interior standpoint, the Cybertruck really offers a unique blend of functionality. The seats are comfortable enough for four full-sized adults to ride in comfort.

The interior is a big factor in the buying decision for a lot of pickup truck buyers. Elon Musk knew this when he set out to design a pickup truck. The Cybertruck has an intelligently designed interior that will make most occupants feel right at home. Where most pickup trucks are a bit underwhelming on the interior department, the Cybertruck has gone above and beyond. The panoramic roof is a nice touch in addition to the six-passenger seating, and there is plenty of headroom to go around.

19. The Immense Windshield

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the Cybertruck is its massive windshield. The truck is mostly made of glass and metal, and this creates an open-air feeling inside. Since the majority of Cybertruck owners will be taking them off-roading, the open-air feeling is a must. The windshield itself is quite massive to say the least, probably the biggest in the pickup truck class. The overall shape of the truck compensates for this in some aspects. You could almost say that the windshield is reminiscent of Chryslers “cab-forward” design scheme from the 90s. Obviously, the first fear that comes to mind with the windshield is the sun getting in the driver’s eyes.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

But Tesla has assured potential Cybertruck buyers that the windshield will be coated with a sun reflector. As will the rest of the glass in the vehicle including the roof. This is good news because considering that the Cybertruck is made from hardened steel it could potentially feel like a tuna can in the heat of the summer. Luckily, Tesla has assured that the vehicle will also have an adequate AC system to keep things cool. Perhaps the worst part of this design might be trying to have someone replace the windshield after a crack or damage. That’s going to be a big and expensive job to complete.

18. Almost Impenetrable Body

As it stands right now, to get an armored vehicle you have to go through a special company. There are many companies out there that design armor-plated vehicles, and it can be quite a hunt with a lot of special permits involved. Tesla went the other route and decided to design the truck out of cold-rolled steel. A harsh contrast to Ford all-aluminum F-150. It seems like automakers are going to be fighting over what type of metal to use in their pickups for years to come. Nevertheless, the Cybertruck is a big and burly looking beast with a lot of silver. Obviously, the production version will offer some type of paint scheme.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

But Elon Musk wanted to shock the automotive world with the present-day rendition of Mad Max. During the unveiling of the unique-looking truck, a sled hammer was taken to the doors of the vehicle. The Cybertruck can hold its own in a collision or by getting damaged. Most consumers are going to be enjoying this truck off-road. Nothing is worse than taking your truck off-road and enjoying the mud and dirt only to damage your paint job. The impenetrable body might be a stellar selling point.

17. Armored Glass

In addition to the impenetrable body panels, the Cybertruck is also being marketed with armor glass. When you get a nick or something on your windshield or any of your car’s glass, it can be a stressful situation. The armored glass is designed to give a good amount of protection to the vehicle. During the stress tests when the vehicle has unveiled the glass was tested with a steel ball being dropped from the air. The glass withstood the impact fairly well and this gives shoppers a look at a truck that can actually withstand a good amount of damage.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

When you think about a vehicle that will be cheaper to maintain in the long run, this truck could be it. Replacing glass is an expensive part of vehicle ownership. If you live in a state where there is hail or other types of natural disaster the Cybertruck could potentially save money in the long run. The Cybertruck is going to use the same type of glass all around the entire vehicle and this is a nice feature to have. Musk was serious about creating a one-of-a-kind vehicle that would last the test of time. With this armored glass feature, you can’t go wrong.

16. The Steel Shell Has Dual Purposes

One of the most serious issues for a car owner to bump into is rust. No matter what part of the country you live in, you are sure to find rust at one point or another. With a vehicle as expensive as the Cybertruck, the fact that the shell could somehow be protected could be a massive selling feature. Tesla has said that the shell mitigates dents, damage, and corrosion. To have an outer casing that’s resistant against these types of corrosion could really impact how the vehicle’s resale value is affected. Elon Musk has stated that the outer shell of the Cybertruck will resist rust and corrosion from most types of salt and debris.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

This type of body is actually perfect for pickup truck buyers. We aren’t sure how many commercial buyers will spring for the Cybertruck. But we have to think that it will be a good amount if the truck will actually last longer. Time and time again, pickup truck buyers are faced with rusting of the body. Especially the pickup bed, which takes the majority of the impact during ownership. It’s nice to see that there is finally a truck that will provide some sort of protection against this kind of issue. Musk is trying to do something different, and he has with the Cybertruck thus far.

15. The Glass Actually Reflects Impact

The glass on the Cybertruck is actually built to deflect and reverse the impact. With such a unique type of design, it’s no wonder that the Cybertruck is going to offer such a unique proposition in the automotive marketplace. We’ve seen some pretty unique features come of this truck so far, but the reflective glass is a game-changer. First and foremost, if you are loading the pickup truck up with wood or building supplies, you won’t have to worry about hitting the back window.

via: Bing
via: Bing

This is one of the most common accidents with pickup trucks that are actually worked. The reflective glass is also deflective against sunlight. But Musk has assured the consumers that the Cybertruck will be able to deflect heat. What a good thing because a majority of the first time Cybertruck buyers will be coming out of California where it is hot and sunny. The Cybertruck already seems to be a good deal, but the fact that this glass is going to be deflective is just another positive attribute for the truck.

14. The Cybertruck Will Have Three Different Motors

Perhaps one of the most startling differences between the Cybertruck and the rest of the pickup truck world lays in the design. Musk has stated that the Cybertruck will have three different configurations. Each of these configurations will have a target buying demographic. What makes the Cybertruck stand out from the crowd is the fact that the design is actually going to make it competitive in the pickup truck landscape. The starting configuration will have a single motor rear-wheel-drive version, which is actually quite similar to the setup found in most gasoline-powered trucks that are on the market. But the unique thing is the top-of the line version.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

It will be AWD and be powered by three separate motors, a completely new and unique setup when compared to the trucks of the past. When you think about having three motors in an AWD truck, it’s a pretty cool concept. That is going to give the Cybertruck a serious amount of performance off-road and on the pavement. This is going to actually perform better than a Raptor in a lot of ways. Tesla has something revolutionary on their hands and with features like this, we can see why. The Cybertruck is going to be a serious contender with a body style to fit just about anyone’s taste.

13. The Cybertruck Has A Pretty Far Range

Not too long ago, electric cars were inferior when you compared them to gasoline cars in terms of range. Then along came Tesla and started to revolutionize the industry. A decade ago, the Cybertruck would have been nothing more than a dream. But technology is advancing at such a rapid pace that the time is now for a truck like this. The base model of the Cybertruck is advertised as being able to achieve a range of 250 miles. Not bad considering that the vehicle is going to be as heavy as a tank. But can you imagine how big the battery is going to be? Specifics haven’t been released yet, but it’s safe to say that the Cybertruck is going to have some power behind it.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

Opt for the top-of-the-line version and you are going to get a whopping range of 500 miles. It should be noted that the Cybertruck is also capable of charging itself. Musk was quick to point out that the truck is going to have multiple power sources on board. This is another important feature for potential commercial buyers. We like that the truck is going to offer all of this and the powerful battery is giving the truck a whopping amount of range. You’d be hard-pressed to find another truck that will perform at this level in the electric category. Tesla has truly pioneered with this one.

12. It Should Be Fast

Right now at any given moment, the Ford F-150 Raptor is the fastest truck on the market. The Cybertruck is touted as having an almost supercar 0-60 time. With this kind of spectacular performance, it’s easy to see why the Cybertruck is going to have its fair share of fans. While the Cybertruck is not being marketed as a supercar by any means, it still offers some serious performance that hasn’t really been seen on the pickup truck market before. Tesla hopes that this will attract a whole new section of buyers to the brand.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The rated 0-60 time of the top-of-the line setup is going to be 2.9 seconds. That’s a fast showing for a vehicle that’s essentially a giant slab of metal. To accomplish this, the Cybertruck will be running three engines simultaneously. In the realm of electric engines, this is a pretty impressive showing for one of the first production electric trucks. Tesla doesn’t want their vehicles to be boring by any stretch of the imagination. The Cybertruck is going to offer the same type of quality design that you’d expect from a company that makes spaceships. The Cybertruck is going to be an admirable performer no matter which way you look at it.

11. Impressive Towing Capabilities

One thing that you can’t do is market a pickup truck that can’t tow. Tesla realized this out of the gate and designed the Cybertruck to be able to handle all kinds of weekend activities. The unique design of the truck is one thing. But what many people wonder is if the thing is actually practical. From a design standpoint, you get the best of both worlds with the Cybertruck. And you really can take this thing to the lake for the weekend and pull your boat. Tesla claims that the initial towing numbers will be around 14,000 pounds, giving the Cybertruck a monstrous amount of towing capabilities. We like how it comes with just about everything that you’ll need to get the job done.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The Cybertruck is being marketed as the ultimate weekend warrior. Tesla has marketed the included ATV which will come with the truck. This means that you can take it out to the dunes or the lake for the weekend. But when it comes to going on any sort of outing, you want to be able to tow a camper or your boat. You’ll be able to tow with confidence thanks to the Cybertruck’s curb weight and powerful dual motors. The Cybertruck is going to be able to hang with the big boys when it comes to towing capabilities.

10. It Also Has An Impressive Payload Capability

The Tesla Cybertruck is designed for the common truck consumer. So naturally, there are going to be certain areas of the truck that can handle what the world will throw at it. First, the truck is going to be able to haul about 3,500 pounds in the truck bed. That weight includes the occupants inside of the vehicle, so keep that in mind. Although you probably won’t find the Cybertruck replacing any full-size pickup truck on the worksite, it does still provide good value for the price. Sure, it’s not your father’s F-150, but it is a serious competitor in a crowded space where pickup truck dominance means brand loyalty.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The truck is going to be able to handle most of what you throw at it. If you are going to be hauling stuff from the hardware, store the Cybertruck should be able to handle these tasks with ease and efficiency. The no-nonsense design of the Cybertruck makes it incredibly easy to live with. Factoring in the long driving range you’ll be able to get to multiple spots with ease during your daily travels. The Cybertruck offers a serious blend of versatility that a lot of full-size trucks nowadays don’t even offer. We still wonder if Tesla will be introducing any kind of accessories such as a bed liner or even a metal toolbox.

9. The Factory Tonneau Cover Is Lockable

Where the Cybertruck might seem expensive in some departments, it makes up for in others where you’d generally pay for accessories. Take one look at the tonneau cover on the Cybertruck and it looks amazing. But Tesla has added some pretty unique features to it as well. First is the ability to lock it. A locking tonneau cover is a first-hand experience and a great way to be able to utilize your cargo. In order to even get a lockable tonneau cover on most trucks, you’ll need to go to the aftermarket route. And if you go with a factory tonneau cover it can be quite pricey, to say the least. Tesla is trying to give its owners the most bang for their buck with the Cybertruck.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The unique design along makes the truck stand out like nothing else that’s on the road. But then you start adding the one-of-a-kind features into the mix and you have a special truck. The lockable tonneau cover is great for when you live in an urban setting. Obviously, you don’t want to leave your truck bed exposed to prying eyes, especially if you have to park in some sort of enclosed parking structure that is multi-use. The lockable tonneau cover is a wonderful feature that blends in nicely with what the truck has to offer. If this is just the tip of the iceberg for future features, we are already quite impressed.

8. 100 Cubic Feet Of Enclosed Space

The Honda Ridgeline was actually the innovator of the built-in trunk system. But it’s Tesla that has taken it to the next level. When you look at the market for truck beds right now, they are all pretty much the same. There’s the same amount of cubic feet and pretty much the same features for each truck bed. The Dodge Ram has a bit of an advantage with the “RamBox” storage compartment. But all in all most trucks are offering the same features. Tesla hopes to do things differently with its truck bed. The massive A-pillars are host to a built-in truck compartment which has over 100 cubic feet of enclosed space.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

You can use this as a place to store tools or golf clubs. Adding a trunk to a pickup truck has always been a dream for developers. But the Tesla Cybertruck is going to be one of the first vehicles to offer it exclusively. When we look at the overall scope of things the Tesla Cybertruck offers the enclosed trunk space is notable. Not to mention the fact that the innovative use of the A-Pillars is enough to give the design team props. The interior of the Cybertruck is well put together and it offers a good portion of features. Tesla has put a good amount of time into designing an interior that you’d actually want to be in.

7: The Tonneau Cover Can Hold An Entire Person

There are some features that the Tesla Cybertruck has that make it utterly unique. The truck has a built-in tonneau cover as opposed to an option. This is unique in that you can protect your items that are in the truck bed. Obviously, a good portion of Cybertruck owners are going to live in an urban setting. So naturally, it can seem sketchy to have your tonneau cover exposed. In terms of design, the Cybertruck has a rather unique truck bed in general. The rigid steel does a good job of holding things in place, whereas other pickup trucks in this class have to have an optional truck bed ordered.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

To prying eyes, this might seem like it’s an all-aluminum tonneau cover, but it’s not. This is how Tesla is going to market a rather unique truck bed to the public. In addition to the other features that make the Cybertruck a success, this magical truck bed is perhaps one of the most unique. It gives the truck a rather Baja-looking flare. The appeal of the Cybertruck to the masses is what’s going to be the real test for the truck. Will the general public buy a truck bed that’s like this? Sure, it is similar to the Ridgeline in a lot of ways, but will it appeal to the hardcore truck shopper.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

6: The Truck Has On-Board Power

Another stellar feature of the Cybertruck is the fact that it has onboard power. By this, we mean that there are plug outlets that can be used to power everything from a TV to general appliances. Tesla has done this because a lot of pickup truck buyers end up having to use an inverter in their pickup truck. With the Cybertruck, you’ll be able to power all of your goods right from the truck. Utilizing the truck’s onboard power for your tools is a great way to increase your workability, and this might appeal to professionals. But only time will tell how well the truck latches onto the market.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

An interesting note that Musk mentioned was the fact that the Tesla Cybertruck can power itself. What he means by this is the fact that the Cybertruck can be charged by using one of the built-in power outlets in the truck bed. This is revolutionary in a way because the Cybertruck is the first electric car that can actually plug itself in. With the increasing need for on-board power in pickup trucks, the Tesla is actually going to be at the forefront of the technological burst. The Cybertruck might possess a unique set of charging features that will innovate the electric car market.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

5: A Combination Of Colors

When the Cybertruck rolled off of the assembly line and onto the stage, the look was stunning. There has never been anything like it on the road before. The bare, unfinished steel look is about as industrial as you can get. Tesla is going to be offering a range of colors on this thing. As with any Tesla product, the Cybertruck is going to be very adaptive to the customer’s input. Ordering your own Cybertruck will consist of picking a color that you like. Tesla hopes will entice even more buyers.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

But how long will it remain relevant? The pickup truck market is a highly competitive place. With Dodge working on another mid-size truck and the Ranger racking up new sales, it’s not going to be an easy sell. The problem with the Cybertruck is that the bare steel look might not appeal to everyone. We think once there is some kind of paint on it the truck will look a whole lot better. The overall design is very utilitarian. The lack of any paint color at the launch party just leaves the mind to wander.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

4: Built-in Trunkspace In The Bed

In recent years, truck manufacturers have been more focused on the truck bed design. The Cybertruck not only has a built-in tonneau cover, but it also has a built-in trunk. This trunk is deep enough that you can put groceries and other items into it. Perhaps one of the problems with truck trunks of the past has been that they are just too small. Tesla hoped to change this with the innovative design. Plus the Cybertruck is meant for the outdoorsman type anyway. Having this built-in trunk goes good with the notable addition of the camping gear.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

Then you have the large 6.5-foot truck bed as well. No matter if you need to transport lumber or mountain bikes, the Cybertruck will be able to do it. The sheer volume of the truck’s cargo capability makes it a winner. The combination of the versatility of design is going to attract buyers from all walks of life. The Cybertruck just might change the way that we think of truck beds.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

3: Built-In Light Bar

Another thing that pickup truck owners generally go for is auxiliary lighting outside of the vehicle. The Tesla Cybertruck does away with this need by offering the lightbar built-into the roof of the vehicle. There is no need to shop around for an aftermarket unit. The built-in lightbar incorporates mini LEDs to create one long strip of light. There is no word on how replacing this will go, but based on the fact that the glass is bulletproof it probably won’t be easy. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the sheer depth of the lightbar and what it brings to the table. When you are off-roading, nothing is worse than not having enough light.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The built-in lightbar on the Cybertruck is just another feature that makes ownership a breeze. Fans have come to appreciate the built-in light bar and what it offers to the off-road community. In addition to the lightbar, the Cybertruck also has a massive amount of ground clearance so getting to your destination won’t be very hard. Even if you aren’t an outdoorsy type, you can’t go wrong with the one-of-a-kind design of the truck.

via: Motor Trends
via: Motor Trends

2: The User Interface Will Be Massive

There is no denying all of the useful tech gadgets that have gone into the Cybertruck. But perhaps the most noticeable is the 17-inch touch screen display in the middle of the dashboard. The verdict is out as to whether this is the final dashboard design or not. I happen to think that it will be a little less extreme in the production version. But the element of the touch screen adds a bit of futuristic touch to the already extreme looking pickup truck. Buyers will be pleased to see that most of the truck’s capabilities can be managed from this central touch screen unit. In addition to that, the truck bolsters a nice instrument console as well.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

Tesla has said that tech will be a central feature of the Cybertruck. So it’s not surprising that the truck would feature such a massive display. We can only wonder where the backup and side view cameras will be mounted. The Cybertruck that we’ve seen was also lacking any rearview mirrors, which will not follow it into production. Tesla was just trying to keep the look as clean and futuristic as possible. With this being said, it’s only right that the truck gets a fitting interior to keep up with the Mad Max design elements.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

1: The Roof Is Transparent

Finally, one of the most noticeable features of the Cybertruck is the fact that the roof is transparent. Yes, that’s right, you’ll be able to see right out of it. Tesla says that the roof will be able to reflect the harmful rays from the sun. The outer coating is designed to block the UV rays from affecting you and this will keep Tesla owners nice and cool. We also have to believe that the Cybertruck is going to have a powerful air conditioning system. Tesla has said that the truck’s extreme outward appearance won’t affect the internal temperature.

via: Motor Trend
via: Motor Trend

The first fear on many drivers’ minds was how hot the inside of the car would get. Tesla already uses a proprietary method for cooling where the car is constantly cycling the air conditioning to keep the components cool. I’m sure that this same technology will follow the Cybertruck. It has managed to keep Tesla components save through some pretty hot summers. The company is sure to implement a number of features to keep all of the tech gear in the Cybertruck running smooth. The entire design is packed with all kinds of technological advances.
