2. David “Son of Sam” Berkowitz

Back in the late ’70s, New York City was a mess. The crime rate was rampant and the mob ruled the city, crime gangs and crack cocaine. But worst of all, a serial killer named the Son of Sam terrified the city. Behind this nickname was David Berkowitz who, in 1976 and 1977, killed six people and attacked seven more. His method was simple. He would shoot people in dark alleys or attack young couples in parked cars.

In the beginning, the police didn’t have a clue who the Son of Sam was and why he did those crimes. But when they caught him, it was revealed he was a mentally unstable person. During his bloody quests deep in the heart of New York City, Berkowitz used his old 1963 Ford Galaxie sedan with a plain exterior. Since the car was dated, it didn’t attract any attention, which helped him hide his crimes for some time.

3. Joel Rifkin

One of the most recent serial killers is Joel Rifkin who they caught in 1993. His case was interesting since he was a landscaping technician who used his job sites to hide the bodies. So when the police traced his landscape contracts, they had their suspect.

They nabbed him in his 1984 Mazda pickup truck with a dead body in the back. After the apprehension, Rifkin proved cooperative, providing police with the details and maps for all 17 of his victims. Later, they convicted him, sentencing him to 203 years in jail.

4. John Wayne Gacy

With the rate of 33 proved killings of boys and young men, John Wayne Gacy was one of the most dangerous serial killers who ever lived. From the early ’70s to 1978, he cruised through the shady Chicago neighborhoods and picked up his victims.

He used several vehicles, but when he was caught, he had a black late ’70s Oldsmobile Delta 88, which he chose for its big trunk. A creepy detail about him was that Gacy worked as a clown at children’s birthday parties where he picked some of his victims. When they caught him, the press called him the “Killer Clown.”

5. John George Haigh

One of the most famous serial killer cases from the mid-20^th century was the case of the “Acid Bath Murderer.” Back in the ’40s, London was shocked by the reports of six murders somebody conducted in an especially cruel way. Haigh searched for wealthy individuals, learning their habits and lifestyle.

Then he murdered them and disposed of the bodies using sulfuric acid and a bathtub. John George then used their money, forged the documents and sold their valuables. When they eventually caught him, he was driving the luxury Alvis TA 14 he bought with his stolen money.
