The Rambler was an economy model with no performance options but a light body. Someone at AMC thought it would be a good idea to put a big engine in it and create a proper factory hot rod (via Hemmings).

This cool-looking and rare AMC was built in cooperation with transmission manufacturer Hurst. It was basically a budget Rambler model but with a powerful 390 engine and lots of speed options from Hurst. Since it was light and small, it was fast and eye-catching because it was only in the white, red, and blue color schemes. AMC made only around 1500 of these great cars in 1969.
