Over the Top: Cars of Famous Rap and Hip Hop Artists

Vukasin Herbez June 4, 2019

Ever since rap and hip hop became an integral part of the mainstream music industry, cars have been one of the most common topics in the lyrics as well as the décor in music videos. This wasn’t just marketing because hip hop and rap artists are one of the biggest car collectors and customizers among today’s celebrities. Naturally, their cars are immensely interesting, although somewhat over the top.

There are several types of vehicles people connect with hip hop and rap culture. From those colorful lowriders to those expensive supercars and powerful luxury SUVs, rappers are famous for adoring them all. Even the most exquisite luxury cars are often not enough for some rappers, so customizing is a regular occurrence. So keep reading to learn more about the five most interesting artists and their car collections.

  1. Kanye West

For over a decade, Kanye has been one of the leading forces in modern hip hop. An immensely talented and often controversial artist, he has a deep connection with the automotive world and not always pleasant memories. Before his rise to stardom, Kanye was involved in a bad car accident and was severely injured. Even so, he didn’t give up driving and accumulated quite a collection of luxury rides.

They include a Mercedes-McLaren SLR and Aston Martin DB9. However, the most interesting is his matte black Lamborghini Aventador that Kanye usually drives himself. It is rumored that the car has special custom touches, but no paparazzi has ever taken a good photo since Kanye’s Lambo is too fast.

  1. Rick Ross

Some music critics claim that Rick Ross’s meteoric rise to fame is not because of his talents and lyrics, but because his self-promotion and record company that pumps up the hype. Whatever the case, Rick Ross has used a big portion of his wealth to fuel his passion for exclusive cars. He has the mandatory Bentleys and Rolls-Royces, as well as a Maybach with custom touches.

Interestingly, he has a classic 1973 Impala convertible, which is a nod to the classic days of early hip hop. However, the most unique car in his collection is his Maybach Coupe, one of two they ever built. The price for this crazy automobile is rumored to be over half a million dollars.

  1. Snoop Dogg

One of the maverick artists of the hip hop game, Snoop Dogg has been on the scene for more than two decades. And he is still considered one of the most popular rappers and influential figures of today. From the early days of his career, cars were an integral part of the lifestyle, as well as common parts of his videos. However, Snoop stayed true to his roots and rejected the concept of buying newer limousines and flashy supercars.

Instead, his car collection is more about classic cars. He owns several classic American cars, all of which he turned into lowriders. From the iconic ’64 Impala to the ’67 Cadillac De Ville, Snoop displays immaculate taste. But the most interesting is his bright yellow Pontiac Parisienne Convertible that you can see in numerous videos and photos.

  1. Flo Rida

Some hip hop purists despise the appearance of artists like Flo Rida. They claim his kind of rap is killing the beauty of the hip hop and rap genre. Even though some music fans prefer the older style of hip hop, there is no doubt Flo Rida is high on the hit charts. As a result, he became a rap celebrity with the money and status that comes with it. Of course, this means he was quick to establish a car collection that includes a Ferrari and Mercedes model.

But his most prized possession is a white custom Bugatti Veyron with several unique details. Some of them are gold plated wheels and gear levers, as well as diamonds on the dashboard. The Veyron cost him over $1 million, but Flo Rida has probably upped the price tag significantly higher than that now.

  1. T-Pain

Not as popular as some of his contemporaries, T-Pain is a renowned producer as well as an MC. In the last decade, he has helped deliver more than 50 hit singles. Also, he has influenced lots of other artists and groups. Other than music, T-Pain is active as a car collector. In 2009, he had over 30 cars in his garage. But the most interesting thing is that his collection is so colorful. In fact, T-Pain bought some strange cars like a fully restored Cadillac Hearse.

Other than that, you can find some highly-sought after classic muscle cars like a Chevrolet Chevelle SS, Oldsmobile 442 and Chevrolet Impala SS. Also, he has some sports cars like a Ferrari and Porsche and even an enormous Ford F650 truck and a small but effective Mini Cooper S.

These are the over the top cars of some famous rap and hip hop artists you may know of and follow. These people can afford to collect cars like most of us collect coins or stamps. What kinds of cars would you buy if money was no object? Imagine being able to buy any car you want.
