Five Production Cars That Smash 0-60 In Under Three Seconds

Vukasin Herbez March 17, 2017

Measuring the quality of a production vehicle relies on many factors. Undoubtedly, though, the most attractive to the common car nut is speed. Obviously top speed is a big attraction but, let’s be honest, who is getting up to 200+ MPH on a daily basis?

With that in mind, despite the ridiculously expensive price tags, car fans tend to focus on acceleration. Specifically 0-60 is the big discussion point. We’ve gathered some info on the most rapid 0-60’s on the planet and, if you have the money, these rides are available to you.

Lamborghini Aventador SV

Described as ground breaking by Lamborghini, the Aventador SV is every car fan’s dream. The V12 60-degree lump uses multi-point injection over the finely tuned 6.5-litre offset. The top speed is a remarkable 217 MPH.

At 8250 RPM, the Aventador generates a whopping 740 BHP. The 0-60 is clocked at a time of 2.8 seconds. Costing roughly $530K before tax in the USA, this beast is no cheap ride.

Tesla Model S P90D

What is all the fuss about Tesla? Well, firstly, these machines are powered by electric, making them all the more special. This isn’t your Prius-type lump of space-waste, the Tesla is a legitimate dynamo.

Powered by two electric motors, the Tesla S P90 D can reach 60 MPH in 2.8 seconds flat. The motors generate 255bhp front, 496bhp, 713lb ft total, and can be fully engaged when pushing the ‘Ludicrous Mode’ button. Yes, that’s actually a thing.

Another aspect of the Tesla that makes it so much more appealing-this is a family saloon with a price tag of just $130K from new. Yep, you can nearly travel back in time for just over 1/10th of a million bucks.

Don’t believe us? Treat your eyeballs to this video. Wondering why it’s so scarily quiet? Single speed electric transmission, that’s why!

McLaren P1

Following in the illustrious footsteps of the legendary F-1, the lineage of the Ultimate Series is hard to live up to. In the P1, we have the true heir to the throne of McLaren. Housing a twin-turbo V8 under the hood, the McLaren is as close to god-like any car will come.

Achieving 0-62 in 2.8 seconds, and 0-124 in 6.8, this monster is guaranteed to peel the skin from your face during launch. Somehow McLaren have managed to make the P1 consume on average 8.3L/100 KM, that’s just 34 MPG!

Cost? Oh just $1.35 million USD without any extras or unique design specs.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Officially (on a technicality) the fastest road legal production car at 268 MPH, the world record edition 16.4 supersport is literally a hell fire powered speed demon. 0.62 MPH is clocked at a ridiculous 2.5 seconds.

Costing around $2.8 million before tax and delivery, for that few split seconds faster than a Tesla, you’ll have to dig very deep.

And finally…

Porsche 918 Spyder

This mid-engine hybrid V8 is assisted by two electric motors, and truly is revolutionary. Looking for a way to get from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds? Well, you’ve found it.

Unfortunately you’ll also have to find $900K to bring this one home to wifey, who’ll likely divorce you if you dare unleash the full potential of the Spyder with her in the passenger seat.

Then again, it might just be worth it.
