These Are The Best Cars Set To Come Out In The Next Five Years

Vukasin Herbez June 13, 2023

It’s no secret that the car industry suffered a lot of problems in the last couple of years. From the global pandemic and chip shortage to the rising costs of materials, all of it spelled trouble for car brands. However, the future still looks bright for the auto industry since manufacturers are preparing to present a wealth of new models and technologies in the next five years.

As expected, most of those cars will be electric, but there are more than a few ICE-powered cars that will be on sale. We will also see the debut of new names as well as the return of old ones. New classes will be added, and the existing ones will get new players. Here are the best cars that are set to come out in the next five years.

Hyundai N Vision 74

After excellent reception by car fans and the car press, Hyundai decided to put this fantastic concept into production. We don’t have an exact release date or specs at the moment. But, astonishingly, this incredible design will be born as a production car (via Top Gear).

Presented last year, the N Vision 74 is one car we can’t wait to see on the road. Blending ’70s aesthetics with modern material and technology, the N Vision 74 looks like a long-lost concept car but with a modern twist, which was precisely the idea behind it. It was well-received and car fans are now waiting to see in what exact form will be resurrected. Will it have a hybrid or hydrogen powertrain, or will it be fully electric? A turbocharged ICE engine? At this point, it’s anybody’s guess.

Cadillac Celestiq

The car world was puzzled when Cadillac recently announced its $300,000 super-luxury sedan. Once the “Standard of the World” and a company that built its legacy on similar models, Cadillac hasn’t had that much luck in recent years or decades. But the Celestiq is here to change all that. Not only is it a stunner, but it’s also already sold out even at its exorbitant price (via Cadillac).

Although the Celestiq is a 2024 model and future vehicle, GM has already sold two years worth of production of these hand-built electric sedans. With over 600 HP provided by a big battery pack and four electric motors, this GM will compete with the future electric models from Bentley and Rolls Royce. We can expect a sublime interior, excellent performance, and a return to American luxury in a big way.

Ford Mustang Dark Horse

The GT, Mach I, Cobra, Shelby, and Boss 302 have all been recognizable performance versions in the storied Mustang lineage. But for 2024, Ford is preparing an all-new thoroughbred Mustang positioned above the GT. It’s called the Dark Horse. Even though it still needs to prove itself, it is already a contender for one of the best Mustangs ever produced (via Ford).

The Dark Horse is a track-oriented model based on GT. It means it uses the fourth-gen Coyote V8 with double intakes and revised parts but takes it up a notch. The engine used in the Dark Horse has forged internals, new camshafts, electronics, and an even larger intake system. That means it will rev higher and deliver more power than the already potent standard Coyote V8. We expect it to go over 100 HP per liter of displacement, which means that Dark Horse will have over 500 HP on tap.

Chevrolet Silverado EV

Ford beat Chevy to the punch in the electric truck war with the introduction of the successful Ford Lightning electric truck. However, GM is fighting back with Hummer EV and the upcoming Silverado EV. This electric vehicle will arrive later this year as one of numerous future EV premieres by GM. Built on the Hummer platform, it will have similar characteristics, but it will be somewhat more affordable and produced in higher numbers (via Chevrolet).

We can expect a range of 400 miles on a single charge, which is very good, and an overall power figure of up to 662 HP. However, since the Silverado EV is going to be a work truck, we also can expect numerous interesting and advanced features designed to make it more practical and usable.

Scout SUV and Pickup

The International Scout was a small and very usable off-road SUV with choices of engines ranging from 2.5-liter straight four to 4.4-liter V8. Also, it came with a removable hard top, which meant that every Scout was also a convertible and also had a fold-down windshield (via Car and Driver).

Over 40 years since the last Scout rolled off assembly lines, Volkswagen is ready to revive this brand with a modern and electric version of this famous SUV. Yes, it will have body-on-frame construction like the original, and it will have two versions – SUV and pickup. It will also be produced domestically in a new factory in South Carolina.

Jeep Recon

Jeep has embraced the EV future with the Wrangler 4xe, but we can safely say that it is moving towards all-electric models set to be released in a few years. The first of which is Jeep Recon, which will debut in 2024. Interestingly, Jeep decided to engineer Recon as a fully capable off-road electric warrior instead of making it a regular SUV (via Car and Driver).

The Recon will feature a high-ground clearance true 4×4 drive train thanks to four electric motors, removable doors, and a roof. It would be similar to Wrangler but with all-electric power and a different design. However, meaningful information about power, battery pack, performance, or price still needs to be published. It’s rumored to be released soon.

Chevrolet Corvette SUV

It might be a shock to Corvette traditionalists, but GM is preparing a performance SUV version of the Corvette. It will use GM’s SUV platform but with numerous suspension and construction modifications, an all-wheel-drive system, and initially a V8 engine with at least 500 HP (via Top Speed).

For years, GM has toyed with the idea of turning Corvette into a full-scale sub-brand dedicated to performance vehicles, and it’s finally happening. After the amazing Corvette C8 and its versions, GM is moving to the performance SUV market with this model.

Lotus Eletre

For decades, Lotus was known for its small, lightweight, and nimble sports coupes, but in 2024, it will change its direction completely. Because the Eletre, an all-electric performance SUV, will debut. The Eletre will be produced in China and sold worldwide based on an all-new architecture (via Lotus Cars).

Under the seductive design, there is a very advanced drivetrain that consists of two power levels – 600 and 900 HP, courtesy of an 800-volt battery pack. We expect the performance to be astonishing, and we congratulate Lotus on a brave step into the electric future.

Tesla Cybertruck

Tesla’s Cybertruck is probably the most controversial EV truck. First, because of its unusual, futuristic, and Blade Runner-esque design which is not to everyone’s taste, and second because of its problematic development and uncertain release date. However, let’s see what Cybertruck has to offer once it finally appears in production form. At the moment, Tesla plans to produce four versions of this truck. The base model will have a single electric motor and rear-wheel-drive, and the top-spec version will have four electric motors and an all-wheel-drive (via Tesla).

There still needs to be definitive information about the size of the battery pack or output of the engines, but the company made some lofty claims in terms of performance and range. The entry-level, rear-wheel-drive model has a range of 250 miles, while the top-spec, quad motor, all-wheel-drive version has an estimated range of 620 miles.

Mercedes EQG

For years, we heard rumors of electric G-Class. It made sense since the G-Wagon is a massive and expensive vehicle that could benefit from electrification. Mercedes thinks that, as well, so it is almost done on EQG, an all-electric, super SUV with off-road technology and a unique new powertrain (via Car and Driver).

We know very little about its battery pack, performance, or technical details. However, we know that it will look almost identical to ICE-powered versions and have a pretty high price tag.

Volkswagen ID Buzz

Even though the ID Buzz has just been released for selected markets, US buyers will have to wait a bit longer to purchase this masterpiece of retro-futurism. As a part of the big EV push by Volkswagen and numerous new, all-electric models released in a short period. The ID Buzz has a special place because it represents a fresh take on the minivan concept and retro styling (via Car and Driver).

The ID Buzz comes in six or eight-passenger form, with an 82-kWh battery pack and two power levels – 201 HP (RWD) and 335 HP (AWD). Despite the considerable power, Volkswagen engineered this model not for performance but for practicality and hoped to turn buyers away from SUVs to good old vans, which are more practical and spacious.

Ford Mustang Raptor

Numerous manufacturers have made off-road versions of their sports cars after the instant success of the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. Although it sounds like an impossible thing to match, the results are often stunning and very exciting (via Carscoops).

Ford is, apparently, very close to presenting a similar variant based on Mustang. It will be an off-road version, possibly with an AWD drivetrain, 5.0-liter V8, an off-road suspension, and a special body kit. It could appear in showrooms in 2026 and could make the Raptor lineup complete and unique.

Buick Electra

In the 20th century, the Electra was a luxury sedan made from 1959 to 1990. In the 21st century, it is a luxury SUV powered by electricity. Honestly, it would be a shame for GM to waste such a great model name. So, in 2024, we can expect a brand-new Electra built on modern GM architecture and with unique design features and trim (via Car and Driver).

This model will be available in China, where Buick enjoys considerable success. Also, it will have a range of 300 miles and an overall power output of 340 HP. Interestingly, that’s close to the Electra’s specifications from the ’60s.

Chrysler Airflow

Chrysler desperately needs a hit, so the company decided to go all-electric by 2028 and introduce a sleek new EV SUV by 2025. Called the Airflow, it is another excellent example of reviving the classic names from the glorious past. The original Airflow was an art deco masterpiece that helped Chrysler become a big company in the ’30s (via Chrysler).

Today’s model will feature Level 3 autonomous driving capability, a host of advanced technology and features, and promised 400 miles of range. It should be a competitor for luxury electric SUVs from Mercedes and BMW. Hopefully for Chrysler, it will attract buyers who want something different and elegant.

Dodge Charger SRT EV

We saved the best for last. Although the Dodge is busy introducing yet another Hemi muscle car, their sights are on an all-electric future. Hence the next generation of a muscle car is embodied in the Charger SRT EV. Which will arrive in the next couple of years. Dodge knows that the muscle cars as a product will always stay in style. But they need to find a way to make them interesting for future fans (via Motor Trend).

We know little about the performance, but Dodge claims it will be quicker than the Hellcat. Also, it will feature an 800-volt battery and one very cool feature – speakers which will emit loud engine sounds. Because what’s a muscle car without the roaring sound of an engine, even if it is digitalized?

Lexus Electrified Sport

After the iconic LFA, Lexus needed a proper flagship sports car. Also, this company refused to jump on the EV bandwagon. However, it looks like this will change in 2026 with Lexus Electrified Sport. A model that looks like Lexus’ Supra but with batteries and amazing performance (via Lexus).

So far, it exists only as a concept, but announcements are interesting. Lexus claims 0 to 60 mph in 2.0 seconds and a range of over 430 miles, courtesy of a solid-state battery pack. This technology should be a game-changer for all EVs that will come out in the next five years.
