Jeep is having one of the most serious recall periods in its history. Across multiple models, multiple years, and multiple types of dangerous defects, well over a million Jeep owners across the United States are currently being urged to take immediate action. If you own any Jeep built in the last six years, this guide is for you.
Here is every active recall, broken down by model, so you can find your vehicle and know exactly what to do.
The Scale of the Problem
This is not one recall. It is a wave of them hitting Jeep owners simultaneously, covering three completely different types of defects — a power steering wiring fire risk, a high-voltage battery fire risk, and a trailer tow module failure. Combined, they affect an estimated 1.5 million vehicles in the United States alone.
The global safety campaign for just the Wrangler and Gladiator alone encompasses 1.08 million vehicles in the U.S., 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and some 125,000 across other international markets. Add the PHEV battery recall and the trailer tow module recall on top of that, and the total scope is staggering. Auto123
RECALL 1 — Jeep Wrangler (2021-2025): Fire Risk While Parked
This is the biggest recall of the group. NHTSA recall 26V363 applies to Wranglers from model years 2021 through 2025. A connector in the electric hydraulic power steering pump is susceptible to high resistance, causing overheating of combustible materials. CarBuzz
The safety recall affects an estimated 787,887 model year 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler SUVs built between June 24, 2020, and December 2, 2024. The fire can start whether the vehicle is running or completely turned off and parked. FOX 5 DC
What to do: Park outside, away from structures. Do not park in your garage. Owner notification letters will be mailed July 9. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov now. Repair is free. NHTSA
RECALL 2 — Jeep Gladiator (2021-2025): Fire Risk While Parked
The Gladiator shares the exact same defect as the Wrangler — a faulty electrical connection in the power steering pump wiring that can overheat and ignite combustible materials.
The recall involves 289,112 Gladiator vehicles with model years ranging from 2021 to 2025. All powertrain types are affected — gas, diesel, and plug-in hybrid. NHTSA is aware of 51 fires and one injury already linked to this issue. News Nation NowNHTSA
What to do: Same as Wrangler — park outside immediately, check NHTSA.gov, and book your dealer appointment when the fix becomes available in July. All repairs are free.
RECALL 3 — Jeep Wrangler 4xe (2020-2025): Battery Fire Risk
This is a separate recall from the power steering issue above and covers the plug-in hybrid version specifically. The recall affects 228,221 Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from model years 2020 through 2025 due to a risk of fire while parked or driven. NHTSA
In rare cases, the battery pack may contain cells with separator damage which, combined with other internal chemical or thermal interactions, can cause the high-voltage battery to short-circuit and catch fire. MoparInsiders
What to do: Stop charging your 4xe immediately. The risk is higher when the battery is fully charged. Park outside, away from your home and garage. Call 1-800-853-1403 or check NHTSA.gov under recall 25V-741.
RECALL 4 — Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022-2026): Battery Fire Risk
The recall affects 91,844 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from model years 2022 through 2026 for the same high-voltage battery fire risk. This is the third time Jeep has recalled the 4xe battery system since 2023 — and previous fixes have not fully resolved the problem. NHTSA
Nine fires occurred after vehicles received previous recall fixes, indicating earlier solutions were ineffective. Even if your Grand Cherokee 4xe was repaired under a prior recall, it still needs the new remedy. Timothy Abeel
What to do: Stop charging immediately. Park outside. Check NHTSA.gov under recall 25V-741. The remedy includes a software update and battery replacement if needed — all free of charge.
RECALL 5 — Jeep Cherokee (2026) and Jeep Wagoneer S (2024-2026): Trailer Brakes May Fail
This recall has nothing to do with fire — but it may be the most dangerous situation of all for anyone who actively tows. The recall covers 2024-2026 Jeep Wagoneer S and 2026 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. According to the federal filing, the trailer turn signals may fail to flash, the trailer brake lamps may not illuminate when the driver applies the brakes, and in some cases, the trailer’s electric brakes may not function at all. Ram Heavy Duty Forum
NHTSA estimates 100 percent of the 456,287 affected vehicles contain the defect. Every single Cherokee and Wagoneer S with a tow package built during the affected period is considered defective. aol
What to do: Stop towing immediately until your vehicle has been repaired. Dealers will replace the trailer tow module free of charge. Check NHTSA.gov under recall 26V-059. Jeep Cherokee Forum

What Every Jeep Owner Should Do Right No
Regardless of which model you own, the steps are the same:
First, find your VIN — it is on the lower corner of your driver-side windshield, in the door jamb, or on your vehicle registration. Then go to NHTSA.gov and enter it. Letters to owners will go out in July for the fire risk recalls, but Jeep owners can search the NHTSA recall database starting June 11 to learn if their vehicle is affected. Do not wait for a letter in the mail — check today. CarBuzz
For any questions, contact Chrysler’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Lemon Law Help
Every single repair across all five recalls is completely free of charge at any authorized Jeep dealership.
The Bottom Line
Jeep builds some of the most capable, loyal, and beloved vehicles on the road. But right now, owning one comes with a responsibility to act. Whether your Wrangler might catch fire in the driveway, your 4xe battery is at risk while charging, or your Wagoneer S trailer brakes could fail on the highway — none of these are problems you can afford to ignore.
Check your VIN. Book your appointment. Stay safe.
