5 of the Stupidest Truck Accessories That Should be Banned

Vukasin Herbez June 1, 2019

Pickup trucks are the backbone of the American automotive culture. Those are the vehicles that do many things from being a regular working man’s tool to lifestyle rides for urban cowboys. People love their trucks and have every right to do so because pickups are great. After all, most drivers will eventually need one at least once in their lifetime.

However, that level of popularity sparked the aftermarket industry. It produces various components and add-ons to enhance the looks and the usability of trucks. But not all mods and aftermarket details are good. In fact, some are so downright disgusting and obnoxious, they should forbid them by law in all 50 states. So, read on to find out about the five stupidest truck accessories you can have on your ride.

  1. Tailgate Net

One of the dumbest accessories you can put on your truck is a tailgate net. Why would somebody replace their truck’s tailgate they designed especially for closing the truck bed with a piece of nylon net? It isn’t even close to being durable or safe.

However, some people say trucks with tailgate nets can achieve higher mileage, but this theory has been proven false. And open tailgate causes wind turbulence, which can even deliver less miles per gallon. But most importantly, a tailgate net is not even close to being safe since the contents of your truck can find its way onto the street easily.

  1. Lift Kits

Originally, they produced lift kits for people who needed more ground clearance. They enable them to take their vehicle off-road and tackle even the hardest terrain. For that use, lift kits for Jeeps and trucks are perfectly fine. However, if you are buying a lift kit just for show purposes and don’t plan to take your truck off-roading, you are missing the point.

Worse yet, you are ruining your vehicle. There are numerous choices on the market. And some people tend to lift their pickups so high, they hit traffic lights. Not only is this unsafe, but it is also unnecessary and unstable since higher vehicles tend to have more body roll.

Paired with Lambo-style doors, under-body neon lights and stupid rims, lifts kits should be banned. Lift kits are especially ridiculous if you mount them on two-wheel drive trucks that are never intended to go off-roading.

  1. Rolling Coal

In these environmental-cautious times when people try to protect the environment and turn to hybrids or electric cars, there are still some enthusiasts who take pride in polluting the environment. This is how the Rolling Coal movement was born. What is it exactly? Well, if you own a diesel truck, you will notice that it produces a small amount of black smoke.

So those who want to show their disrespect for Mother Nature modify their trucks to puff large amounts of black smoke by removing catalyzers or messing with the exhaust. The result is a black smoke screen while revving. But all that smoke does is annoy the rest of the people at the stop lights and in traffic jams.

  1. Truck Nuts

Sometimes you don’t need to explain why. You just need to post a picture, and everybody will immediately realize how stupid an accessory is. America is the leader of the free world, the most powerful military force in history and the only country that has conquered the moon.

Somehow, one of the bestselling truck accessories is a rubber pair of testicles mounted on the rear bumper or tow hitch that dangle while you drive. If your personal sense of good taste can’t keep you from buying this ridiculous item, then the law should.

  1. Huge Wheels

In last decade, wheels have become so huge, if you want to install the biggest ones available, you have to do extensive modifications to your truck’s body, suspension or chassis. Full-size trucks already have big wheels with fat tires. But if you install enormous wheels and low-profile tires on regular truck suspension, you will ruin the handling of the vehicle.

You’ll also affect the comfort and make the ride harsh. After all, investing up to $3,000 for a set of oversized rims and special rubber just to make your vehicle drive poorly is extremely stupid.

These are five of the stupidest truck accessories that should be banned. Can you add any others to the list? For sure, they will keep making them as long as people want to waste money to buy them.
