For most of the 20th century, the US car industry was at the forefront of innovation and design. The American manufacturers introduced many advanced concepts and patents which are standards today. 1. Ford Model T
There are not enough words to describe the importance of Ford Model T for the automotive history and car culture since this was the car that singlehandedly created the car world in 1908. The Model T was the first truly mass-produced automobile with over 15 million made until 1927 and a car which motorized the world and laid the foundation of the modern car industry with assembly plants in foreign countries and on other continents.
Also, the Ford Model T was the first car which was produced in numerous versions and designed to be easily transformed into a truck, agricultural machine or even into a military vehicle. It launched the Ford Motor Company to become the biggest car manufacturer in the world at one point and spawned numerous models which copied the concept. To be honest, Model T wasn’t so revolutionary in terms of design or technology. It wasn’t an advanced car and it was more the utilitarian machine than a highly advanced car. But its combination of durability, affordability, and usability has changed the world.
When the Model T was introduced in 1908, the world was still using horse-drawn carriages but by the time it was discontinued in 1927, the automobile age has successfully started.
