20 Things Drivers Have To Learn About The Mustang Mach-E

Cameron Eittreim November 27, 2019

Ford has once again stunned the automotive world with the release of the Mustang Mach-E. This unique,all-electric SUV is the first vehicle of its type to bare the “Mustang” moniker. The Mach-E is a far departure from the Mustang that we all know and love. The sports car will still stay in production but the Mach-E will be a new option. The Mach-E looks to be a fun and well-designed car. Take one look at the front fascia of the Mach-E, and you’ll instantly know it’s a Mustang.

There is no denying the heritage that has gone into the Mach-E. But the Mach-E also has some very unique new features. Ford has gone to great lengths to make sure that the vehicle can compete with Tesla’s vehicles in every way. Many electric cars have come and gone and failed in comparison to their gasoline counterparts. It will be interesting to see how the Mach-E can compete against the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro. The sheer difference from being a pony car will be enough to deter some buyers. But the Mach-E combines one of the most unique and technologically advanced designs we’ve seen in a while. Read on and check out some of the features of this new, electrified Ford.

20: All-Wheel-Drive

Well, the cat’s out of the bag. The next-generation all-electric Mustang is no longer a gas-powered sports car. But there are some other unique things the Mach-E has to offer. First, Ford has stated that the Mustang sports car will still stay in production. The Mach-E is going to be sold alongside it. Ford is not the first company to resurrect a defunct nameplate, GM did it earlier this year with the Blazer. The fact that the Mach-E is capable of going off-road will appeal to urban buyers who might live in bad weather states.

via: Digital Trends

Sure, you won’t do any extreme off-roading, but it’s still nice to have AWD available This is just another example of Ford stepping outside of their comfort zone. The Mach-E is meant to appeal to a broader demographic. The ordinary Mustang shopper probably isn’t looking to go off of the beaten path. But the Mach-E offers a stylish and trendy way that you can do just that in style. The substance of the off-road capability and the versatile interior are enough to entice a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.

19: The Mach-E Comes Out Of Team Edison

If you’re familiar with the Ford landscape these days, then you’ll know what this refers to. Team Edison is a group within Ford that is dedicated to the development of electric vehicles. Ford has been gearing toward alternative energy vehicles since the birth of the Escape Hybrid back in 2004. The Mach-E is a new direction for a company that recently completely cut all passenger cars from the lineup. Although this was a controversial move for Ford, it just goes to show that the two brands can still get the job done.

via: Digital Trends
via: Digital Trends

The Mustang Mach-E is only just the beginning of what Ford has in store. Tesla stole the electric marketplace from Ford from under the company’s nose. Ford was the originator to push alternative energy vehicles. Sadly, they lost sight in the long run and Tesla has dominated since. The Mach-E shows that Ford can offer a compelling alternative. The Mustang name has brand loyalty, which means the Mach-E will automatically get a good deal of looks. Another thing that Ford is betting on is the fact that the younger Mustang demographic will eventually move up to a Mach-E.

18: It’s Not Meant For The Track

Sadly, the Mach-E is not a track-tested Mustang model or even designed for racing at all. Instead, the Mach-E is meant for urban dwellers who might eventually travel out of town for the weekend. If you love to ride mountain bikes, the Mach-E might be the car for you. Still, there are some distinct advantages to not being a race car. Unlike a traditional Mustang model, the Mach-E is better suited for a family. Let’s be frank, the current Mustang is about as family-friendly as a Yugo. That’s no fault of the Mustang, it’s just a sports car.

via: Digital Trends
via: Digital Trends

The Mach-E is a purpose-driven vehicle intended for saving you at the pump and saving the environment. With Ford heading in a new direction with their vehicles, the Mach-E is just a smart option. Another benefit to the Mach-E not being a true sports car is the fact that the insurance rate is much lower. You get all of the prestige of driving a Mustang, without the fuss of actually driving a Mustang sports car. We think that this could be a smart move for Ford by offering a well-rounded electric crossover.

17: Ford Is Pulling Out All The Gadgets

There is no denying that the Mustang Mach-E is going to be a technologically advanced car. But sources say that Ford is pulling out all the stops technology-wise. The Mach-E is outfitted with all kinds of tech goods that make the thing more advanced than a spaceship. The Mach-E is going to be one of the first vehicles to showcase Ford’s new Sync infotainment center. Sync is adding a host of new features that allow the Mach-E to be more in-tune with the driver than ever before. The Sync system has been at the forefront of Ford vehicles for the last decade.

via: Digital Trends

In addition to the added benefit of the Sync connectivity, the Mach-E also has new safety features. The first of these is a lane departure setting which gives the Mach-E the ability to sense a crash ahead of time. The Mach-E is also going to boast the new self-parking features which have been making their way onto most new Fords. With this host of new technology, you’d think that it would take a strain on the battery. But the Mach-E is still as efficient as ever, thanks to a host of new improvements which have made electric recharging system performance better than ever.

16: There Won’t Be A Stick

The days of the Mustang having a clutch are coming to an end. Of course, the Mach-E isn’t a performance-based model. But it’s still nice to know that there will be a Mustang coupe around in case you want performance. Ford has said that it is slowly doing away with stick shifts just like other automakers are. So it’s easy to see why the Mach-E isn’t going to have a stick shift either. The transmission you’ll find in the Mach-E is going to be a very focused form of Ford’s current CVT system. This transmission is more suitable for the urban commuter than downright performance.

via: Digital Trends
via: Digital Trends

We do have to wonder if the Mach-E will live up to its Mustang heritage and offer any type of performance. When you buy a Mustang you have a certain expectation. The Mach-E, of course, has a different purpose entirely. We can see that the Mach-E is geared toward the environmentally-conscious consumer. You still want the ability to play and enjoy the outdoors but you don’t want a gas-guzzling SUV. The advent of the Mach-E presents a new type of option that will resonate with a younger demographic. Most of us who came up when the Mustang was popular will enjoy seeing the nameplate on an SUV.

15: There Are No Door Handles

Let’s take a look at the exterior of the Mach-E. Do you notice anything out of the ordinary? It has no door handles. The Mach-E is a technologically advanced car in every aspect. Ford is incorporating new technology into the design which allows the doors to be opened with a touch. This is nothing new in the aftermarket car world. Customizers have been shaving door handles for years. But the Mach-E is the first production vehicle from a major manufacturer to incorporate shaved door handles. The future might not look bright for locksmiths thanks to the Mach-E.

via: Mach-E
via: Mach-E

One of the main concerns with the Mach-E is, what if the battery dies? There are multiple ways that you’ll still be able to get into the vehicle. First and foremost the Mach-E has connectivity with your smartphone. You can either use it as a key fob thanks to the app or open doors from the outside. If all else fails, there’s the usual Ford code input on the side of the driver door. This is a technology that Ford has used for years on their vehicles and you’ll be able to enter a four-digit code and open your vehicle. There’s nothing like new technology mixing in with the old.

14: The Largest Infotainment Center

The Mach E’s infotainment center has a 15-inch display. Ford is going right for the neck with the Mach-E, and they have Tesla in their sights. When you first step into the Mach-E, you’re greeted by a top-notch infotainment center. The large display is part of Ford’s ongoing commitment to quality and enhancement of the interiors of the vehicle. If you’ve ridden in a Ford lately, you’ll realize just how top-notch the interior quality is. Finding crucial information on the Mach-E display is easy. You can find just about anything from maps to vehicle battery charge levels.

via: TF Car
via: TF Car

In addition to the infotainment center, there is also another large LCD that is used for the dashboard. You have quick access to vital statistics such as the vehicle battery life and range. The Mach-E has a beautiful setup which showcases the vehicle’s focus on technology. Ford has gone to great lengths to make sure that this new setup can compete with Tesla. Mach-E buyers are undoubtedly some of the most tech-savvy and will thus be looking for these features. The Mach-E is only the start of Ford’s technologically-advanced future lineup.

13: HTML5 Powers The Center Stack

That’s right, the Mach-E is a web-ready car. What’s that mean? Well, the infotainment center has been designed using HTML 5 programming language. The dashboard inside of the Mach-E will be powered by the same thing that you watch Youtube with. Nevertheless, there is a lot of new technology in this car. The HTML 5 design just goes to show how far the Internet has come in terms of integration with our vehicles. There was a time when things like this would have only been a distant thought. The Mach-E is pushing toward a connected vehicle so it’s easy to see why the integration.

When you take a look at the center stack, you’ll think you are looking at a tablet PC. We have to applaud Ford for the notable design elements that make this stand out. HTML 5 was put in place to make the user integration with apps like Google Car Play a lot easier. It’s nice to see that the high price tag of the Mach-E is going to come with some technical benefits. With all of this technology integrated into the vehicle, the Mach-E is going to be presenting some pretty stiff competition.

12: The Price Will Be High

The Mach-E is not going to be a bargain based electric vehicle. The cheapest way that you are going to get into a Mach-E is with the $37,000 base model. The less that you spend will also mean that you are paying for less battery and less drive time. The cream of the crop is going to be the top-of-the-line Mach-E. There will be a driving range of over 300 miles which is a notable feat for any electric car going to compete with Tesla. Ford is putting all of their eggs into the Mach-E basket, so the company wants the vehicle to do well.

via: Digital Trends
via: Digital Trends

With the GT model topping out at a whopping $60,500, the Mach-E is going to be pricey. But for that high price tag, you get one of the most visually stunning vehicles on the road. With its shaved door handles and the distinct Mustang styling that has been fused into an SUV, you can’t go wrong. The high price tag is likely to compensate for all of the technology that has gone into the vehicle. But Ford has stated the company will make a profit on each vehicle sold. which is a first for any automaker delving into the electric foray. At the moment, this is a generally unprofitable sector of the car industry that Chrysler is losing $14,000 on each Fiat 500-E sold.

11: The Mach-E Is Still A Pony

Ford has gone to great stakes to innovate and develop this electric engine. The Mach-E is going to come out of the gate with 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque, a very powerful showing for an all-electric vehicle. The Mach-E should reach 0-to-60 times of under 3 seconds, and the car will be fun to drive. It’s amazing to think just how far these electric engines have come in recent years and the amount of performance we are getting. The Mach-E stands out from the crowd in what’s soon to become a crowded arena. Tesla also offers comparable performance but lacks that special Mustang badging.

via: TF Car
via: TF Car

The Mach-E carries on the long tradition of pony car excellence from Ford. From the styling to the driving characteristics, there is no way to deny this is a Mustang. And that’s what Ford is hoping Mustang loyalists and new buyers alike will see. The unique styling of the Mach-E makes it a very appealing choice for the general buyer. The noticeable improvement in styling over the other all-electric vehicles on the market makes the Mach-E a reasonable choice. Styling enhancements will also be added to the GT version. This is sure to add some spice to an otherwise dull segment in the automotive industry.

10: There Are 5 Different Models

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about the Mach-E is the fact that there are five different models to choose from. Ford wants the Mach-E line to be in-depth and have enough range that it appeals to all buyers. Not every buyer is going to want a full-fledged sports car, but they will want a vehicle that looks good and performs admirably. The Mach-E can fill this gap nicely in an otherwise crowded marketplace. The first thing you’ll notice about the base-level Mach-E is the upmarket styling. The vehicle comes with a stellar pair of alloy rims in addition to the hidden door handles displayed at the unveiling.

via: The Detroit Bureau
via: The Detroit Bureau

The more upmarket versions of the Mach-E are going to be adding accessories, which are at the forefront of any crossover SUV. A roof rack will be an option, as well as a bike rack. With the Mach-E offering an AWD version, there is no doubt that some owners will be taking these things off of the beaten path. The notable driving characteristics of the Mach-E are what Ford is hoping attracts a wide range of buyers. The Mustang has traditionally been a sports car. With the Mach-E, the company is exploring a new market.

9: It Comes With A SYNC Infotainment System

Believe it or not, the Sync voice-activated system has been in Ford vehicles since around 2005. But the company continues to innovate it. Compared to other infotainment systems on the market, the Sync system is pretty intuitive to use. It offers a reasonable blend of features for the price. Ford has added many features that buyers in the current market will be looking for. The sync system lets you control most of what’s going on inside the car. Most notably is the fact that the sync system will now be showing charging information and range. The large touchscreen is going to be easy to use, which is partly why the system has been so successful in recent Fords models.

via: Uncrate
via: Uncrate

The infotainment system in the Mach-E is important because the car is supposed to be pioneering in terms of technology. Ford hopes that they can who would-be tech-savvy buyers who are intrigued by the features that the Mach-E offers. The sync system will become more of a driver’s aid in the Mach-E. Features like self-parking and lane assist will take a much larger role in ensuring drivers and their families are safe. There is also a new lane departure warning system that Ford is testing out which will make its debut on the Mach-E. With all of this new technology, the Mach-E is going to be serious competition for the all-electric vehicles already on the market.

8: It Has A Range Of 230 To 300 Miles

When the name “Mustang” comes to mind, the first thing that you think surely isn’t efficiency. But the Mach-E is going to change your perception. The Mach-E comes out of the gate with a reasonable mileage range. You can go about 230 miles conservatively and the larger versions can reach an impressive 300 miles. To give you an idea of how far this is you’d be able to drive on an entire tank of gas for a week in a Honda Civic. So, in reality, this isn’t a bad first range for the car to have. Now, in reality, you’ll be charging the Mach-E every night so it will get a much better range. The real question is going to be if Ford is going to be offering the same charging stations that Tesla does.

via: Digital Trends
via: Digital Trends

With this type of car, having the ability to charge is crucial. Otherwise, you’re going to be stuck parking your car at one of the community charging stations like the ones provided in San Francisco. To get a full charg, you ideally want to leave the car on the charger during the night. But not everyone is going to be able to do this, and oftentimes the vehicle might be left without a full charge. Ford says that the Mach-E will be able to self-charge the battery as well, similar to how the Cybertruck does. Whichever method Ford utilizes to charge the Mach-E, we’re still going to be excited about the progress of the car. The Mach-E offers a stellar amount of value for the money, and you get the Mustang name.

7: It Runs On Electricity

This is the first thing that should stand out with the Mach-E – a Mustang that’s no longer gas powered. Fifty years of heritage is going to change, and not all Mustang owners are happy about it. But in the grand scheme of things, the Mach-E is a trendsetter. The Mach-E should ignite a new sense of brand awareness for the Mustang. You can only expect that owners will be either thrilled or end up hating it. The electric motor has come a long way from the simplistic days of the GM EV1. So naturally, the Mach-E is fitting to bear the Mustang name. Ford has put a lot of effort into helping the vehicle attract a larger audience than the general electric-powered car.

via: Top 10 Motor
via: Top 10 Motor

There’s no denying that Ford is going straight at Tesla with a vehicle that is equally as appealing. The Mach-E will offer a superior level of comfort and refinement for a significantly lower price. Carrying the Mustang name is a lot of responsibility. And as the brand continues to progress into the future it will be interesting to see if the Mustang becomes a full-fledged crossover or if it keeps its sports car demeanor. Brands like Mitsubishi have already turned a long time sports cars into crossovers – take the Eclipse Cross, for instance. The Mach-E is going to be in a crowded space nevertheless.

6: It Can Hit 60 MPH In About 3.5 Seconds

Even though Ford has been adamant in saying that the Mach-E wasn’t going to be a sports car. The brand still has put a fair amount of performance behind the vehicle. If there is one thing that Tesla is known for its being fast off the line. So naturally, Ford has to come to the table with something as appealing. The Mach-E boasts a pretty quick 0-60 time, which impressed the automotive community. Again Ford has been quick to let us know that the Mach-E isn’t taking over the sports car appeal of the Mustang coupe. But it’s still nice to know that the Mach-E can hold its own on the race track or the urban streets.

via: Performance Drive
via: Performance Drive

It’s interesting to note that the Mach-E doesn’t lose any of its range depending on how you drive it. So no matter if you put the pedal to the metal or drive modestly, the Mach-E is still going to perform the same way. Mach-E buyers are going to be the traditional electric car buyers. But Ford is also looking to attract a new range of buyers who wouldn’t otherwise be interested in an electric vehicle. The Mach-E offers a lot in the way of comparable driving, so the performance off of the line is only going to bolster the sales. Coupled with the Sync integration and self-driving characteristics, the Mach-E should be a pleasure to drive.

5: It Has Two Trunks

As the internal combustion engine is slowly phased out of the automotive industry, we have to wonder what will happen with all that leftover space. Because an electric engine is much smaller by far, cars will now have the option of two trunks. The Mach-E has two trunks, which were showcased at the reveal. The hatch has a crossover design. The hatchback area allows for all of the usual big cargo that you’d have a crossover buyer transporting. In addition to that, there’s another little trunk in the front of the car where the engine would go.

via: Motor Illustrated
via: Motor Illustrated

This cargo area is more suitable for groceries and anything drivers need to store in a hurry. Both of these trunks combine to make a car that has a significant advantage over a lot of its competitors. With electric cars slowly becoming the norm ability to add trunk space in different spaces is going to grow. Ford will find a market for these vehicles because of the added cargo space. Nothing is worse than going out on the town to go shopping only to run out of storage space. With the Mach-E ,you’ll have ample space in an efficient and easy-to-drive vehicle.

4: It Will Be Released In Late 2020

The Mustang Mach-E is going to be here sooner than you think. Ford has already set the release date for 2020. That’s already going to be a groundbreaking year for Ford, as the Bronco is set to return as well. We have to wonder what kind of reception the Mach-E is going to get. Dealers will have an influx of Mach-Es sitting right next to the gas-powered Mustangs. Ford has long been planning the release of the Mach-E as Tesla has been eroding the company’s reputation for being the alternative energy leader. Only two models of the Mach-E are going to hit the market first. Later models will come around 2021.

via: Speednik
via: Speednik

The GT model, for instance, is going to be the last one out of the gate. When you think about a notable exception to the rule there have been talks about a Shelby version of the Mach-E. Ford might potentially introduce many of the iconic Mustang lines to the Mach-E including the Bullitt and the Mach-1. When you think about an innovative crossover the Mach-E is something very unique in a spectrum of crowded entries. The Mach-E will stand out from the crowd in a lot of ways due to its unique styling and all-electric power plant. We are pretty sure that Ford is going to be playing with all kinds of ideas.

via: Motor Ara
via: Motor Ara

3: There Are Three Technological Style Options

Ford wants the driver to be more in tuned with the road and with the vehicle. The Mach-E will have various driving functions that coincide with the driver’s mood. These various driving functions change the ambient lighting in the vehicle and how the vehicle drives. Almost too smart. Ford wants the Mach-E to be the most technologically advanced all-electric vehicle to date. You can’t go wrong with how the vehicle looks, and its interior functions are going to bring the driver closer to the road than ever before. The three driving functions are Unbridled, Engage, and Whisper. We think that engagement is going to be the option that gets the most Mustang fanatics on board.

via: Pocket Lint
via: Pocket Lint

Mustang owners are automatically more engaged with the driving characteristics of their vehicles. This is why the sports car brand has become such a fixture of the automotive world. There are many reasons why the Mustang Mach-E is going to be a more intuitive driving experience. The first of which is the technology that’s going into the car. The Mach-E isn’t just an all-electric vehicle with no personality. Ford has injected a lot of life into this car to make it something truly out of this world. About a Tesla or Nissan Leaf the Mach-E is a unique offering that builds on its Mustang heritage.

2: It Has A Glass Roof

As of the current decade, glass roofs are here to stay. Tesla was showing its version of shatterproof glass with the Cybertruck and now Ford is showcasing it with the Mustang Mach-E. We have to wonder what kind of future is in store for the brand if the Mach-E does well. Ford has stated that the glass roof will be a standard feature on the Mach-E. And for those who are wondering, yes, it will be retractable. Of course, there are worries the roof is going to leave you baking in the summertime. Ford has come up with a solution to this as well. The Mach-E will have a special coating on the roof which reflects the heat outwards.

via: Rushlane
via: Rushlane

Mach-E buyers will be able to choose between different tints for the glass, an option that many in California and Nevada will appreciate. Mach-E, in general, is a stellar way to showcase alternative energy. Ford has put a lot of focus on the interior aspects of the car. So often automakers are busy designing the outside of the vehicle and lose track of where we spend the majority of our time. The Mach-E is one such car that you’ll enjoy being inside of. For commuters who spend the majority of their life in their car. The glass roof is a great way to give you some type of scenery to look at.

1: The Car Is Equipped With Ford Co-Pilot 360TM 2.0 Technology

Volvo used to be the car company that was obsessed with safety. But nowadays, it’s Ford, and the Mach-E is the first guinea pig for the project. The Co-Pilot program is a series of computerized components that help the car monitor the road. The Mach-E will be constantly monitoring the road and the area around it to ensure that you are driving safe. Things such as parallel parking and backing out will be much easier with the Mach-E. The vehicle will also have self-assisted parking. which a lot of vehicles are now showcasing. If you have never been good at parking, this is a wonderful feature to have. We’ll be curious to see how drivers adapt to the vehicle making their every move.

via: Auto Wereld
via: Auto Wereld

Knowing that the Mach-E is such a safe ride is a great way to increase consumer satisfaction. Safety is becoming more important than ever. Ford hopes that one day there will be no driver fatalities. With this increased technology, this might very well be a thing in the future. The Co-Pilot has been in development for some time now and this rendition should offer a plethora of new features. In terms of technology and development, the Mach-E is going to offer a serious combination of style and comfort. And it’ll drive for you.
